Is this site specific? Our NVSL team has a bunch of NCAP swimmers as assistant coaches. I realize this is an MCSL thread, but on the other side of the river, our NCAP coaches encourage swimmers to prioritize summer swim, at least until the swimmer is capable of making Futures. For 12Us — all of whom do NCAP long course in summer because we pay 12 months regardless — coaches want the kids to enjoy summer league swim. |
I heard the same explanation, I can believe it based on what I know from other former Toll parents. Regardless, I am still a happy Toll parent. |
Gee, and I wonder what the connection is between one of the A reps and one of the swimmers that left TOLL 🤔 I’ll just say I know TOLL parents are here defending him, but my information came from a TOLL parent who still likes the club but can acknowledge that the inability to professionally handle swimmers leaving the club is a shortcoming of this coach. |
He left bc of the A reps?!?! What kind of crazy reps do they have 😂 |
This seems to happen every year. Elite swimmers leave for better clubs and TOLL gets pissed. Treats swimmers and parents like dirt, basically kicking them out. So unprofessional. I’ve heard about this happening every year with many families. TOLL sucks. Stay away! |
Always nice to have neighbors in your division. I often feel for Poolesville and Ashton where the closest away meet is like 25 minutes away. Used to be that Damascus and Plantations were all alone upcounty until Clarksburg boomed. |

We’ve got a ton of kids from AU, Holton, and Prep sites on our summer team. PP is full of it. |
We are not NCAP, but I think this is true. I haven't heard anything similar to NCAP kids are being discouraged to skip HS or summer swim by their club coaches from my fellow summer swim or HS team parents. |
Not NCAP either, but I can see some NCAP coaches not wanting summer swim to be a distraction for their top swimmers during club swim long course season. There is some validity to this concern, because summer swim can be a distraction where the summer team is poorly coached/managed. This may be less of a risk for the 12&U club swim kids, but when they hit the 13-14 group, thoughts of swimming in college are considered. |
Who was the last elite DMV swimmer that didn’t swim summer league as a 15-18? Ledecky won a gold medal at 15 might be the only example and she is a generational swimmer. (And even she came back for one final meet as a 15-18) |
There were Prep kids who came back from Futures in time to swim All Stars yesterday. This narrative just uses anecdotal evidence to push a negative story about NCAP and Prep. Which is that person’s prerogative but it doesn’t make it true.
Kids from all clubs like and don’t like Summer swim in different ways. You could pick and choose a narrative about any club. |
+1, I was coming here to point out that there were Prep kids (because that’s who the NCAP hater is really focused on bashing) who came back from Futures in time to swim at All Stars. And yes, the importance of summer swim varies by kid, regardless of what club they swim for. Some kids are really into it and are willing to balance club and summer swim during those 8 weeks, and some kids are more focused on club and either don’t swim summer league at all or skip the summer meets if there is a conflict. |
Yes, I did see some Futures swimmers who swam at IAS. |
It’s cute you think there’s only one Prep hater😂 And in actuality it feels like AU is the site with more issues and much slower swimmers They both have SafeSport complaints against them I guess that’s what they have in common |
