2026 MCSL Division Seedings

Anonymous
Do wins and losses matter for seeding divisions or just the median of the top three times?

And I guess I still don’t understand how the top three times work (and I read the blurb on the MCSL site that was posted here).

Say we’re looking at the boys 8U free for Team Whoever.

Larlo - 20.00
Larlo - 20.04
Larlo - 20.78
Darlo - 21.18
Farlo - 21.69

Do they take the median of the three Larlo times, or the median of each of the best times for Larlo, Darlo, and Farlo?

Not Darnestown?

Darnestown beat Country Glen in the Relay Carnival and Dual Meet

Both teams could move up

Doubtful. River Falls struggled but they’d still beat up on anybody in B. A Division is just light years ahead of B. I’ll bet one team jumps up to take Potomac’s place and that’s it.

The place where it always gets interesting is D-F. Teams are all interchangeable there and there’s usually some weird and significant movement.

I’m not so sure RF beats up on either Darnestown or Country Glen. If you look at Reach for the Wall virtual meets, DT vs RF would have been close almost every week, whereas CG would have beaten RF every week.

Assuming these are the top times in the event for that team in the 5 weeks, Larlo’s 20.78 would be used as the Freestyler #1 spot for the virtual meet, because it is the median #1 time for the team. The median is chosen agnostic to name of the swimmer. The median process would repeat for swimmers 2 and 3.

I don't know how big most teams are, but I think you could split the rays (200 swimmers) in half and have two 100 swimmer Division A teams.

They will be out. That was short lived.

But then how it would it repeat for swimmers 2 and 3? Even with the maximum number of recorded times in any event, wouldn’t the median always be the same? Or does the algorithm toss the times faster than the first chosen median?

I’m probably showing my total lack of math comprehension here.

Being in Division A sounds like a miserable Summer, but that’s just me.

Team XYZ Free results (I’ll do 3 weeks instead of 5 weeks for simplicity.)

Week 1
Karlo 20.0 Marlo 21.0 Farlo 22.0
Week 2
Karlo 19.5 Farlo 21.5 Darlo 21.8
Week 3
Marlo 20.6 Farlo 21.8 Darlo 22.4

Your 3 times used in the seeding simulation would be:
Swimmer #1 20.0 (median of the #1 swimmer across 3 weeks)
Swimmer #2 21.5 (median of the #2 swimmer across 3 weeks)
Swimmer #3 22.0 (median of the #3 swimmer across 3 weeks)

Where will Rockshire end up after going 5-0 in Division L?

Or Palisades after going 5-0 in Division G?

Some parents are just obsessed and monitor all the kids, which is creepy and take the fun out of swimming.

I think a lot of parents actually want to move down divisions where it will be more fun.
