This is so true. Prime example is Moran, the guy running the show in CO was an elementary school PE teacher for 3 years before he became an admin. No idea what teaching and learning is. Which is why Mcps went from national treasure to local disgrace. |
MCCPTA has changed leadership recently and not everyone in the organization agrees with holding MCPS’s feet to the fire. Many in the MCCPTA world prioritize their access and proximity to MCPS leadership over challenging the system on making good on the promises it makes. |
Completely disagree with you. Leadership is there expressly to improve outcomes for students. If they only cared about their own kids, they could do that without all the work that is involved in MCCPTA leadership positions. |
The current leadership has been around a long time and is pushing their self-interest. They have done nothing to hold MCPS accountable or improve things. |
Sounds like you should run for a leadership position, which is great, because not a lot of people are willing to do it given how much work it requires -- please do put your hat in the ring. |
+1. There are several open leadership positions. I’m sure they would love to have you. Don’t want a leadership position? Just join and contribute any of the committees. Can’t do that? Ask how you are helping your schools PTA bring awareness of issues, resources, and opportunities to advocate. |
MCCPTA gives them access to closed door MCPS meetings. Regular parents don’t get that. |
Its too bad they aren't doing anything to make positive changes given they have access. |
I have been in leadership positions. Never again. No help, lots of work and usually the school admin do everything possible to make things difficult and undermine. I do spend a lot of time volunteering with our PTA. But, its very poorly run and the president and leadership are not responsive at all. |
So is the problem then MCCPTA or MCPS Admin. Join the leadership in your PTA or Cluster. |
Our local isn't any better and yes, I do heavily volunteer but I'm done being a leader and organizing. |
Then stop complaining about those who are willing to put in the hours and effort to volunteer. |
This doesn't reflect my experience, at least with the Gifted Education Committee of MCCPTA. They were the ones who got the MPIA request showing cut-offs for lotteries, and which schools were in which tier. They were also the ones who did an analyis of the MS "Advanced" English curriculum and found out (and publicized) that the readings were below grade level. I am not a part of the organization, but they've done good advocacy on issues that matter to me personally. |
Those poor useless volunteers. |
Meetings with MCPS don't amount to anything meaningful. I've been in those meetings. The meetings are not an accomplishment when they don't lead to changed outcomes. |
