The people you call middle class are not real middle class and wealthy. Let’s be real. You are not middle class. Most schools don’t want parents involved. Most ptas are very clique and do the absolute minimum. They make it near impossible to volunteer or do much. |
I can't tell if this is a complaint, and if so, why. I would expect staff to learn first about something that primarily impacts them. However, this is the rollout/expansion/improvement of an existing initiative, and I'm not sure why informing staff ahead of the potential participants is a big deal. |
No it's not. Be part of the PTA and followup on what the issues or concerns are at your school. Discuss your concerns with the school/PTA. Watch the BOE meetings. They are recorded so you can watch them when you have time. |
Who is Taylor? |

Do you even know what you are talking about? When they shut down the MVA, they didn't tell staff or families and we found out at the same time via an general email from the BOE. There is NO staff for this program. Its basicallly IIS and a tutoring service adn they have not hired anyone for it yet, nor have a real plan. And, they are denying families entry. And, many familes sadly have moved, or paying for a private program or homeschooling nor would accept this as its not adequate, if it actually happens. |
Many of us DO do that. Our PTA is a joke. They don't do anything and yes, I volunteer but they've made it such a nightmare this year that I'm doing what I agreed to do and dropping out. |
If you think being regularly involved in the PTSA and MCPS affairs at the level that PTA leadership requires is sustainable for MOST parents, then I don't think you have a firm grasp on reality. You might want to pull your head out of your backside and gain some perspective. |
You keep changing your story. It is sustainable for some of us and we do it. Why don't you? If you have time to post here and complain you have time to volunteer. |
I already acknowledged it was sustainable for some: Namely those who are privileged and resourced enough to be in a position to give away significant chunks of their time away for free without it impacting their ability to earn a living and sustain their household. We were discussing whether the majority of parents could afford to do that, and as I said, the answer to that question is NO. And who told you I don't volunteer and am active in the PTA? Did you ever stop to think that the reason I know most parents can't do it is because I am doing it myself? |
Really? Earning a living and sustaining their household. Of course people can. Its all about life choices and priorities. Most people can give some time. Even a few hours a year. |
Who said anything about PTA leadership?? Most people aren’t just actively members in the PTA. |
PTAs need robust leadership ranks filled out to be effective and functional. |
| Can we get back to talking about Taylor. His latest missive was feigning surprise that there are still racial achievement gaps in MCPE and he's vowed to address the issue. Ridiculous. |
I assume you're referring to this (though it's not a missive). https://moco360.media/2024/10/15/mcps-continued-educational-inequalities/ |
