Women half-naked in pseudo workout gear shopping at Whole Foods?

BUT. What smart women know is that what they wear and how they carry themselves is a signal of their class, and people pick up on this either consciously or subconsciously.

I was always told to dress for the life and job I want. I know that going out in public in ruched butt leggings will turn a lot of heads. But not the right kind of heads. I knew I wanted an upper class life style, husband, career, and on the whole, this requires a certain look. It’s not about how much money you spend on clothing. I could go to Walmart and put together a classy outfit. Women need to be more perceptive about this. You can’t dress like a tramp and then wonder to all your followers on social media why you can’t find a man to respect you these days. Look the part, act the part, win the prize.

And BTW, I’m a Democrat and atheist, FWIW.

Exactly. It's a trashy look to wear underwear in public. However, no one is saying we should be policing women's bodies -- we have a right to judge each other. That's part of being human.

Just out of curiosity, can you all explain how clothing = bodies in the “policing women’s bodies” phrase that keeps getting trotted out? If a store turns away a shirtless man are they “policing men’s bodies” or just enforcing a dress code (ie policing clothing)?

I sincerely don’t get it.

What is it that makes "classy" women think it's okay to label other women as trashy or tramps? You may have such amazing liberal creds, but you're still just a misogynist.

It's not misogyny to ask people to wear clothes. Yes, if I you walk around next to completely nude, I think that you a) lack education and b) are gross. And c) likely vying for attention. It screams lack of self security that you have to manufacture attention by being naked.
Can you imagine if the tables were turned and instead of seeing women's ass cheeks hanging out, or boobs out, we instead saw men's bare bottoms, testicles, or similar? Men would be immediately arrested for public indecency and/or threatening other customers. But women get to be naked because asking them to wear clothes is somehow offensive.

Give me a break. Unless you are blind, you make judgements based on what people look like -- just like the rest of us do.

Because men like it when women look "indecent" in public. Face it. They want all the private parts to hang out, on full display. That's why it's not illegal.

Yes. The prize is whatever you want it to be. Could be hard core goth. Just be aware of what you’re asking for by how you’re presenting yourself.

What I don't understand is why people keep fooling themselves that these are the best clothes to exercise in. It's weird AF.

I wear a sports bra and leggings to exercise in (and sometimes go to Whole Foods on my way home). What exactly do you propose we wear?

My DD (age 19) and her friends (all of whom are college students) really like to dress in a way that OP describes.

I think it's very unfortunate because it looks a bit desperate to me. I think that women look prettier when dressed in a classy way that is feminine, and not trying to shock or get attention.

But it's not worth mentioning anything to this age group. At least for my DD, she would not be open to any constructive criticism about clothing.

This generation (or at least my DD) strike me as pretty immature. If someone is even 10 years older, they dismiss them as a joke with outdated attitudes and knowing nothing. (When I was 19, I don't recall being quite so hostile to people that were older than I was.)

My DD is your DD's age, she will not walk into a public grocery store or any store for that matter in a jog bra. She has been raised to know that we consider that to be inappropriate behavior and she always has a light jacket to throw on after a workout when she stops off at coffee shops or whatever. I have never once seen a picture of my DD with her group of friends in their jog bras. Your DD and her friends are childish, that's on you.

+1. This is what happens when you let your children be brainwashed by filth on social media. They are literally consuming propaganda for hours upon hours every single day.

+2. I actually point out these women to my DD so she can see and understand how trashy it actually looks. It’s one thing (in girls’ eyes) when it’s the 18 year old influencers, but when they see grown women dressing this way it’s obvious how desperate it looks.

Ditto.
Especially point out the jiggling flesh oozing above and below the spandex. I see way too much if that muffin phenomena on both men and women and it is not impressive.

I saw multiple young women walking around in the Dubai Mall in mid-thigh backless dresses. This seems to be something that arrived here with the recent flood of Russian expats. Anyway, if this is now a thing in Dubai, it can't be all that unusual in the US?

Great, American women are being compared to slatternly Russian women style-wise.

My gym has a grocery store next to it. People in tank tops and biker shorts stop there to pick up things they before they go home, and I can't imagine they give a damn about your disapproval.

Whole Foods in Clarendon has about 10-15 fitness studios, gyms, yoga centers, Barry’s, soul cycle, Solidcore, etc next to it. I’d say 95% of customers are in some type of workout gear.

But that is obviously a meat market scenario. lol

Hi there! I do barre. It’s not rocket science. Wear a wrap from athleta or keep an oversized t in your car to throw on to keep from looking like a tramp. It’s okay to maintain some standards and civility.

NP. I find it equally offensive when I see women wearing burkas. I’d actually rather see them in spandex, if that makes sense. American women worked too hard for other women to be oppressed like that.
