Wizards and Caps could be moving to Potomac Yard

First they gaslit saying crime hadn't increased.

Then stomped their feet with the lie "it was worse in the 90s."

Now we'll see just how bad downtown can get.

Lmao at statehood, we need to end Home Rule.

From what I remember, it was a hodge podge of low buildings housing small businesses and houses. What is now City Center was a city block size surface lot that was used by car rental companies. The whole area had a lot of small businesses, Chinese stores, Chinese restaurants, etc., before the development.

At 6th and F streets the huge parking decks for the Hecht’s department store took up a lot of the block.

You think maybe now the mayor and the city council might do something about crime? It's just a couple of hundred repeat offenders. The police know who they are. Maybe arrest them? Put them in prison? Just a thought. Instead of losing a city.

But as always, this is entirely on the DC residents that voted for these people.

There are over 1,000 outstanding unserved warrants for failure to appear in court or non-compliance with terms of release. They have names and addresses. If they were served, crime would likely plummet. Bowser could have asked for federal help to clear the backlog or federal resources re: the lab, she just met with the DC Oversight Committee chair in a private meeting on the Hill. But neither of those key topics were raised.

It seems like they somehow benefit from the chaos, is it that it keeps all the NGOs and advocates funded, the poverty pimps and violence interrupters, etc., whether from public funds, foundation grants or dark money like DC Justice Lab? There is hard hitting talk but not much discernable follow through, which suggests a reluctance to change the status quo.

Less $$$ is going to effectively curb some of the worst excesses.

Bowser's agencies are so poorly managed, I'm waiting for a prominent person to die because 911 did not answer or they were sent to wrong address. Tragically, many ordinary people have succumbed w/o change taking place.

Leonsis will probably accept this because he knows moving the teams to Potomac Yards is trash for the franchises. The only reasons he stays with this VA plan is $$$ because he would control the 70 acres and all development therein.

They had to make a token effort but doing so this way, tonight, just shows how deeply unserious these people are. I feel remiss in relying on them for the safety of my family and if I were a business owner, like Leonsis, I'd likely come to a similar conclusion. Stuck here for the moment due to work/licensing issue but planning to get out after 30 years.

So many daytime armed robberies, including customers robbed in stores, feels like we are pushing out luck at this point. Worried about my teens and what guidance to give re: driving and safety in public spaces. When I was young, DC was CHEAP. Now with kids to worry about, paying top dollar, and watching DCPS decline, we're done.

Streetwalkers have been back in Logan for a while now.

I've seen dealers weighing up crack on scales at the top of the arch escalator, on the flat part, in broad daylight. That's pretty low. Crack is Wack! And so 80s. Have also seen it smoked on the red line heading to Bethesda. That's lower.

The FBI has to be happy with their decision tonight.

It really is a shame. I think the peak may have been under Fenty, the whole city and DCPS seemed to be on an upswing. Sure slipped back quick.

The city is going to be REALLY pressed for revenue, not sure many on the Council even lived here to remember the 90s. Frumin, Pinto, Nadeau and Allen were not here for sure, Vince Gray remembers. Mendo is a clown, time for him to go too.

+1 I lived in DC from ‘85 to ‘05 but still have always worked in DC. It feels like an old friend who has gone off the rails. None of its new “friends” knew how stable and normal it used to be. The city’s standards are low and its priorities are turned around. I am ready sad about it.

VA residents have been attending Caps and Wizards games for decades. Sorry. The only people losing if the move were to happen will be MD residents.

And the Caps and Wizards would lose significant MD based fans. Hockey is booming in MC (as well as NoVa), and MD (not NoVa) have a long history of first class basketball.

Tents and a stage are being set up to announce move as we speak

The one thing Bower might have had going for her is real estate development. Yet here we are.

From your lips to God’s ear. Sure. It’s done. Cry about it.

The majority of Caps seasons ticket holders come from Va. and the Wizards can’t draw flies.

Fecking pathetic.

The city has wanted to get rid of the target strip mall for years.

The Target shopping area was always intended to be temporary.
