Losing the caps and the wizards is a genuine disaster for DC. The entire downtown was revitalized because of that arena. City revenues will fall off the cliff. You think maybe now the mayor and the city council might do something about crime? It's just a couple of hundred repeat offenders. The police know who they are. Maybe arrest them? Put them in prison? Just a thought. Instead of losing a city. But as always, this is entirely on the DC residents that voted for these people.
There are over 1,000 outstanding unserved warrants for failure to appear in court or non-compliance with terms of release. They have names and addresses. If they were served, crime would likely plummet. Bowser could have asked for federal help to clear the backlog or federal resources re: the lab, she just met with the DC Oversight Committee chair in a private meeting on the Hill. But neither of those key topics were raised. It seems like they somehow benefit from the chaos, is it that it keeps all the NGOs and advocates funded, the poverty pimps and violence interrupters, etc., whether from public funds, foundation grants or dark money like DC Justice Lab? There is hard hitting talk but not much discernable follow through, which suggests a reluctance to change the status quo. Less $$$ is going to effectively curb some of the worst excesses. Bowser's agencies are so poorly managed, I'm waiting for a prominent person to die because 911 did not answer or they were sent to wrong address. Tragically, many ordinary people have succumbed w/o change taking place.
