Oh look, a veterinary website cautioning that dogs can perceive infants as prey: https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/children-and-pets---infants-and-dogs#:~:text=It%20is%20believed%20that%20predatory,hurts%20the%20dog%20during%20play.
But heck, what do veterinarians know about dogs? Mommy and daddy know best - their sweet little dog would never bite a baby’s head and kill it. Right? |
From 2001. Also I can’t figure out how a Pomeranian got a baby’s head in its mouth, because one of the articles I found said the baby’s head was “buried” in the dog’s mouth. So that one is really confusing me. |
Have you had a baby, poster? Do you not recall how soft a newborn baby’s head is? Obviously a Pomeranian didn’t have the entire head of the infant in its mouth- but how many chunks do you think can be removed from a tiny baby’s head before it will die? I’m bewildered by the failure of parents here to grasp how delicate an infant is. They can die by being shaken. They can die if they bump their head and a subdural hematoma forms. OF COURSE they can die when an animal with teeth bites into their soft skull. |
Is the infant any less dead because it died 23 years ago? I mean, WTAF? |
Here’s an infant in a swing left unattended with two dogs - Labrador retriever and pug. One of them mauled the infant to death. https://www.foxnews.com/story/unattended-infant-mauled-to-death-by-dog-puppy-euthanized.amp
Would y’all like me to keep posting stories about infants mauled or mauled to death by breeds of dog that are not pit bulls? ANY DOG CAN BITE, AND ANY DOG CAN KILL. The problem is adult humans, period. Idiot adult humans. The dog gets euthanized and the human has another baby, which sadly can’t be prevented because it is every idiot’s fundamental right to reproduce. |
Many more deaths are caused by pitbulls than other breeds, even though their deranged apologists would have us believe otherwise. |
12 stitches? I feel like that's amateur hour. |
I am not an apologist for pit bulls, poster. I would like to see them sterilized into extinction, they are a useless breed in modern society. There are several other fighting dog breeds I’d like to see extinct if I was benevolent dictator of the world. My point, which you keep obtusely ignoring, is that ANY DOG CAN BITE AND ANY DOG CAN KILL - and the millions of idiot adult humans who let infants or small children and dogs of any breed be unsupervised together deserve to have neither dog nor child. Dogs cannot help their instincts. They are not the stuffed animals or cartoons or movie dogs that so many people expect them to be. They are cousins of wolves and deserve respect, and to have children learn to respect them too. I’m tilting as windmills, I know. Idiots breed and have pet dogs in abundance, so millions of kids will keep getting mauled every year by dogs of every breed who are only behaving as tens of thousands of years of evolution have programmed them to behave. |
You should talk to one of the millions of people with dog phobia from getting mauled in the face as a kid. |
Everyone with any sense agrees with your bolded. You should watch kids with ALL DOGS. That doesn't change the fact that some breeds are more likely to kill than others. The stats back that up. If given a choice between putting my kid unattended in a room with 6 strange pits or 6 strange Goldens for an hr or 6 strange pits I think it's delusional to choose the latter. |
You're shifting your goalposts. We are specifically talking at dogs that maul, which I consider to be either killing a human or severely disfiguring them. I'm not defending a dog bite, but 12 stitches is a far cry from ripping a victim torso to limb and eating their corpse. |
If there is one every 23 years vs one every week I consider the one every week to be of higher risk, generally. |
Omg, these parents… ![]() |
Yet we don’t seem to see the near-daily reports of babies and children being mauled to death by golden retrievers, chihuahuas, poodles, Samoyeds, huskies, labs, beagles, Akitas, bichons, chows, malamutes, Newfies and Great Danes as we do with pitbulls. A mystery indeed. |
Well if you want to be snarky about it it, since only about ~25 people per year are mauled to death by dogs of any breed, it’s not ‘near daily’ reports at all, now is it? It’s not even weekly. |
