Other contributing factors:

"they have had several issues with these dogs in the past just roaming around.

Deputies say they have received several calls from that area but did not see any official reports on it."

"“It has to happen in the county because that’s largely where you’re going to see the biggest at large population because everyone has always said ‘well I live in the county, so I don’t have to keep my animals contained,’ but it’s just not safe to do anymore,” Jones said. “And it’s not the responsible thing to do given a lot of the issues that we’ve seen lately.”

She suggests that people who live out in the county make sure that their animals are contained to their property whether with an electric fence or a real fence."

So the more accurate headline is: "idiot owner leaves dogs unsecured, kills man" Are you lobbying for stronger penalties for idiot owners, or just blaming the (believed to be) pit bulls?

You’re right, it’s both! There should be stronger penalties for idiot owners - like homicide here since the owner was known to be irresponsible - and we should blame pit bulls. Rather we should blame the people who insist that pit bulls are gentle, misunderstood dogs just like any other dog (except no other dog eats people). It’s those people who are helping ensure that pit bulls claim thousands upon thousands of human and animal lives a year.

Just bumping the anti-pit bull thread because some people have a hard time finding it

SERIOUS ATTACK, June 2, 2024, Lake Charles, LA:

A woman is on a liquid diet after plastic surgery necessitated by a pit bull attacking her and tearing a hole in her face. https://www.kplctv.com/2024/06/08/man-arrested-after-his-dog-viciously-attacks-woman-sulphur/

I’m assuming the feeble protestations from pit bull supporters will be, “the owner was arrested! No bad dogs, just bad owners!”

If that’s the case, why do so many pit bulls have bad owners?

"feeble protestations" against your specious argument? My dude, there are all kinds of bad owners, and not all of them own pit bulls. There are all sorts of dog bite incidents, and not all of them involve pit bulls. There are examples, in this very thread, of horrific maulings and fatalities that don't involve pit bulls.

As you sarcastically said (but, realistically, stated truthfully): bad owners are the common thread of all bad dogs. As for why there are so many bad owners? Lack of time, lack of training, lack of resources, lack of community support, general stupidity sometimes... Not all bad dogs are pit bulls (which aren't a breed), and not all bad owners own "pit bulls".

But you don't want to look with anything more than your myopic lens, do you?
