Whoa FCPS- data breach

This was my takeaway from the letter as well. Since it said “in person review,” I thought maybe a parent took a picture of some record and that this involved only a handful of students. Silly me!

I also had to read the letter again after I looked at Callie’s website and realized that my student’s name and identifying information aren’t in fact published. The letter states that she published the redacted information, so I see that now…

The names aren't there but if you take a little time, you'll find your child or 2-3 others that have the exact same specifics. It's spooky.

Can someone provide a link to where she posted this redacted information? I have tried to find it in her website but only found pages of her talking about the leak.

But why should she have it? Granted FCPS is at fault, but for her to then turn around and publish this information in a “gotcha” scenario puts her at fault, too. If she would not be “testing” and requesting this would not have happened.

She needs help.

I was thinking the redacted information that she published = the pages where she talks about the leak.

FCPS intentionally deactivated their system that tracks who has logged into a student’s file.

That is false inaccurate info. The k my staff with access to records are 1) team members assigned in sea-stars software and 2) staff who have access to the vault which is limited to very few staff per school.

Spreading false information hurts everyone. A lot of false information on this forum and on Facebook/social media.

At a minimum FCPS needs to provide affected children/families with free credit monitoring for the foreseeable future.

Likelihood that this turns into another class-action lawsuit?

What good would this do. FCPS needs to centralize all requests and before any requests go out they must be reviewed by multiple layers of management, including an attorney. Will this be expensive - yes, but there is enough waste to fund this and protecting student records is more important than changing school names, adding bathrooms to stadiums and funding the portrait of a graduate program, where a school board member made working in FCPS sound so bad by son is questioning if he wants to go into education. There is money to be found and protecting student records is a core function that must be prioritized over other things.

Let's be clear here - the pro-Callie people (or she herself) are throwing in these literal garbage accusation comments with no proof, to make people focus on anything other than her own activities. Let's show evidence that it's wrong and then focus on Callie and her illegal behavior.

I'd rather they spend their lawyer money on protecting student and staff data, than on suing Glenn Youngkin over masks, or taking parents to court to avoid providing special ed and 504/IEP services.

How do I know if my child who graduated last year files were leaked?!

Did you get a letter?

If they had an IEP or 504 last year- it definitely was leaked.

My kid has never had an IEP or 504 and I got a letter.

Privacy problems have been happening for years. My DS graduated from FCPS and when he was a student, I frequently received quarterly IEP goals reports for other students in the mail. Also, during annual IEP meetings, other students’ personal info would appear on the screen - proof that teachers just cut and pasted data from one IEP to another.
