Whoa FCPS- data breach

Anyone know if I'll need to submit a FOIA request to be able to know this??

AFAIK my child did not have an IEP, 504, or anything else related to mental health or academic support needs, so I'm at a loss as to why their name would be on the list and would like to know what the info is.

I'm in the exact same boat and got the letter, too. How can we find out what information was leaked?

No one is disagreeing with you; FCPS has to change their process, 100%. But again, Callie had a choice and decided to post the information on the internet. Normal people don't do that. What she did could or should be a criminal act.

FYI, if you call the support number on the letter, expect them to be worthless. I asked them and they had no idea.

Any administrative or instructional employee within FCPS can see the details of an IEP or 504.

FCPS intentionally deactivated their system that tracks who has logged into a student’s file.

When we got the letter tonight it sounded like my kid and a few others. Then I find the article and it's tens of thousands. So deceptive.

I got a letter as well and have child with no special services who is in elementary school in a different pyramid than the ones mentioned in the article. I am so confused and concerned as to why my child’s data would be anywhere near what she asked for.

Ok, Callie - maybe take a break from the constant "FCPS IS THE THIRD REICH" misdirection? It's bedtime.

She apparently was inadvertently provided, and then proceeded to meticulously sift through and study, the following data, according to her website:
33,000+ students: Nine spreadsheets listing all students divisionwide with IEPs or 504 Plans. Five list over 26,000 students and four list over 33,000 students.
10,000+ students: December 1 count spreadsheet
1,593 students: Academic advising spreadsheet for 9th and 10th grade students by PE classes and 11th grade students by History class
1,500+ students: 7,468 teacher recommendations and notes spreadsheet
1,400+ students: PSAT and PSAT NMSQT scores
1,000+ students: FCPSMed caseload, related services
1,000+ students: mental health tracking data, to include marking students with suicidal ideation, drug addiction, domestic violence at home, and so on.
1,000+ students: spreadsheet listing students and their intent to attend.
300+ students: spreadsheet of course requests for students, listing their primary disability and placement
200+ students: list of students with IEPs due.
150+ students: three spreadsheets of testing accommodations for sped students
150+ students: Grade 4-6 PE gradebook
100+ students: spreadsheet of sped and esol 1-6b students taking an SOL
100+ students: Three quarters of grades for sped students, pulled according to the sped teacher to whom they’re assigned.
100+ students: multiple spreadsheets listing legal matters
90 students: 2019 End of Year goal data
50+ students: Math eCart data
1: One FCPS state complaint response for a student
1: One heartbreaking email from a father, telling a school principal about his child being sexually assaulted

What schools were part each aspect of the data leak? How can we find out what was disclosed about our child?

The letter also implies that the woman published all that identifying information. My understanding was that she did not publish all that information, but redacted most of it.

The FCPS letter also implies that she took the information by nefarious means. But FCPS handed her all of the information when she picked up her own kids records.

Why did FCPS have ALL of that student information in a portable format where is could mistakenly be given to any random person? Why wasn't it locked down and compartmentalized in smaller units, such as by school or grade, or by individual student, then password protected???

It appears that the staff member who told Callie to download her child's records onto a USB stick pulled up her child's records while still being logged into the entire FCPS database, which is how it got on her thumb drive. Like if I tried to download a word document but the entire hard drive got downloaded instead. FCPS is incompetent but this was obviously an honest mistake, and publishing this is completely unhinged and will only hurt the children who's information is now public. I think Callie should be sued.

I don't see any of this information on her website. I'd like to see what she published because my child doesn't fit into any of these categories.

No one is questioning that FCPS blew it and that person should be fired. The point here is that Callie willingly reviewed all of this ill-gotten info and published basically all of it on the internet. Eyes on the prize, people. A normal person does not do that - they would inform FCPS of the mistake and delete the data.

On the other hand, you're probably Callie.
