+1. Disgusting. She should have told the school and returned it. Then she could have gone to the media and told the story to try to encourage FCPS to do better without harming kids.

Exactly. I hope she never gets another meeting with FCPS again. I'm sure there was some disclaimer that said if you received data in error please notify us.

Trying to incite parents to get upset. At first, I thought she was on my side as an advocate but with enough time, you learn she just wants everyone needlessly upset with FCPS. For example, she argued with me when I said FCPS granted us compensatory service hours with no fuss and also compensated us for hours lost during COVID.

She's terrible and does not care about the kids.

Well to be fair many people are still waiting for these checks if we ever get them and FCPS does have poor services, but she does no favors by taking other kids private records.

How is she not also at fault here? Yes, FCPS made the mistake giving her the files, but she’s the one who actually published them and made them available publicly. If I were a parent of one of these students I would sue her in civil court. She’s awful.

Are they actually made available publicly?

they are not available publicly. some documents (like law firm bills, emails from FCPS people and budget stuff) have been published but information has been redacted (redacted properly- not FCPS version of redaction).
Anonymous
Ok. Yes I see that. So it's not published then for parents but is published for school members.
Anonymous
I still don't agree with what she did but if she was going to do this with any respectability the school members names should have been redacted as well. I'm not sure what the point of posting all these files was.

FCPS cannot maintain data privacy.

Anyone who does not opt out of all FCPS surveys given to their minor kids, including the ones that appear innocuous like the SEL surveys, really needs to rethink the potential harm of just going with the flow can mean.

+1 FCPS is just too big of an organization, handling too many FERPA and FOIA requests. I want my DCs information in those records to be 'just the facts' and not include anything subjective, so I opt out of the surveys and started to do that after the 2020 hack.

If they set aside the budget for that, everyone would be furious. That's not what school administration is for, it's not what we want them to be skilled experts in.

Get out of here with your logic! They need to blame everything on the admin and school board. Even if it does not make sense.

If they can be so discrete on a one to one basis and have this much litigation, this was not an accident.

I can just see it. Some beleaguered principal sees her coming, thinks this might be the last time they ever have to deal with her, and says "Julie, give her everything in Cabinet 12" and Julie gives her everything in Cabinet 12. Oops.

Another reason I hate all the freaking surveys asking our kids extremely personal information. All the surveys should be stopped. It would save the schools a lot of money. They never actually help any kids with it anyway.

Also, she has my kids information but more concerning- who else does? At least she is doing something about it. She has absolutely no reason to trust FCPS. I am sure they are going to try and blame her for their stupidity.

Student information in FCPS is usually kept in an unlocked room or closet in the main office, in a simple filing cabinet accessible to anyone who decides to walk in. In my school, PTA board members gained access to this information easily when one of them was hired to work in the main office. In fact, the same file that contains the IEP and other information also contains mundane office paperwork, and therefore can be accessed by anyone in the office at any time. Leak or no leak, you never had any privacy to begin with.

Parents work in schools all over the county...and yes they are privy to way too much information.

And this is why i don't let my kids take those sensitive polls FCPS gives

I am still shocked by how relaxed FCPS will student information. This is not the first time this kind of thing has happened. Is FCPS going to respond or is it business as usual? Someone has to have insider info!
