The solution is that the people posting these threads should reflect on their personal biases. |
Once again who cares? OP can post whatever s/he wants. |
How about the people commenting on this reflect on their own biases? You saw a missing white girl. Not a missing girl and were triggered. Think on that. |
This kind of comment always makes me laugh. If this same photo was posted on a story about a kindly rural neighbor guy who ran into a burning home to save some kids you’d be lauding and praising him. I’m a former prosecutor and can attest that all the worst monsters blend in with all the nicest people - you have no idea who is wearing a mask and scruffy haired bearded men are heroes on the daily, too. |
It was a national news story, about a missing child. You’re really surprised there was a thread- on a parenting board- about a kidnapping that was on the front page of the news? It hardly takes “scanning the headlines”. And for what it’s worth, on the long thread about unsolved crimes that still haunt us, by and far the most commonly named crime was the little black girl in DC who disappeared without a trace and was only ever seen again on a motels security camera with some janitor. As many people have said- if you’d like to bring light to a case where a little POC child was abducted and hasn’t been found, please do! I’m sure the parents would be thankful. |
There is very little someone can do to avoid being taken if the perpetrator is bigger and stronger. Personal defense classes instruct you to resist by hanging on to any object around you to avoid being dragged off, whether it’s a bike, a lamp post, a fence etc. If they can’t move you so easily, they may panic and give up. What are you instructing your kids to do? Roll over and submit? Fight back with their 9 year old fists? The best way for a smaller person to resist is by making a ruckus and grabbing anything around them. Yes, if they are struck by a car, there isn’t much they can do. But if someone tries to grab them off their bike, their chances of being safe are higher if they hold on the bike. |
I’m the OP. If there was a non-white child abducted by a stranger this week who was ignored in favor of the white child; well, shame on the news media. But I don’t think that was the case. Stranger abductions are extremely rare and so they obviously get a lot of coverage. I simply reposted a story that was ALL OVER the news. Again, if there was a non-white child abducted by a stranger this week who was ignored by the news, by all means post so we can email the news station and ask why this child wasn’t given the appropriate coverage. As it is, you just sound argumentative. And out of curiosity, what non-white children’s’ cases are you following? Have you posted them? Are you helping search? |
Very good point / you really have to know people beyond surface appearances to have any idea on whether they are socially well adjusted and kind or capable of evil. I agree that superficially weird people can be both heroes and villains. |
Thanks DEI instructor. Will do. |
The solution is for you to stop with adding racism to everything |
+1 The nutter you're responding to is a professional victim. |
Usually it is, yes. (FYI - Hyperbole is often used for emphasis.) I think we should profile these types of adults and young men, despite how uncomfortable it makes the privileged in this country. [Not PP] |
DP. These pictures always look like mug shots. Is there a reason for that? |
It’s probably their drivers license or state ID picture and most states tell you not to smile because it messes with facial recognition technology. |
People need to be sent to sensitivity training. |
