Makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. |
My parents live very close to there. I wouldn't have thought twice about letting a nine-year-old do that. So scary. Praying for her safe return. |
Campgrounds are so terrifying to me. I would rather put my child that age on the NYC subway alone. |
This whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. Her poor family. I really hope she wandered off for some reason, but that seems unlikely for a 9 year old. She’s not a toddler who would just wander away from a path. And the fact her bike was left behind … ugh. If this was an abduction, I hope they let her go. I know that isn’t usually how these things end. I’m just so heartsick for this girl. (I also have a 9 y/o). |
I also have a 9 year old girl who looks just like her. I can not imagine the hell they are experiencing. I so hope she is found safe today. I don't know how that could happen but I so hope it can. |
Same! I hope they find her, but these things never seem to end well. Praying for a miracle return. |
There are criteria that have to be met to issue an amber alert. Sometimes it takes time to put enough pieces together to hit those criteria. |
I thought they had to have a vehicle description and license plate for an amber alert? I drive a bus and we'll get messages that 911 is looking for person xyz (elderly w/ dementia, child, whatever) but those are never sent out as an amber alert. |
She might have said she would do one more bike loop, when she actually needed to use the bathroom. It's possible she wandered and she is lost in the woods. |
Reasonable suspicion the child/person has been abducted is what they need. https://amberalert.ojp.gov/about/guidelines-for-issuing-alerts |
Possibly, but they had people, dogs and drones looking and didn't find her. |
Have you ever been in the woods? They may have other information but I don't know what that is so I would speculate that's where she is right now. |
That’s what I also wonder: what details led to the suggestion it was an abduction and not just a missing, lost girl. |
I read she was biking on Loop A. A very short loop that is right behind the Park Office and has the bathrooms and showers on the loop.
According to the source I read her parents called 911 at 6:30 as they quickly went around the loop and didn't see her. So it was only a 15 minute window It was said it was right at dinner time, lots of families were at their campsites, still light out - someone had to see or hear something. The loop does go very close to Old Saratoga Rd. Very heavily treed area. ![]() |
They called the amber alert after extensively searching on foot, by air, divers in the water, with dogs, using drones, etc |
