San Francisco is imploding

The parts that are totally imploding are areas that have long been bad - that doesn't make it okay - in fact it will continue to drag down the city - but for most generic tourists you're fine visiting the city.

Their big problem is the collapse in office space that won't easily be reversed w/in the next 3 yrs.

They need to focus on attractive STEM-related industries that don't necessarily need to be associated with SV. I think that life sciences is an a good target, but others can offer up their thoughts.

There was a very good discussion of all of this on Morning Joe this am with a guy who lives in SF and is an expert in something. He said basically this, that it's the always-bad areas that are the problem combined with the collapse of office space. Violent crimes are actually at an all-time low, and much lower than many other cities (ahem, red states) but it's the other crimes that are up and that is what is scaring people away.

Also, the culprits are really drugs/fentanyl and lack of housing.

It's not like the blue-staters are suddenly going to turn MAGA when they move to red states. They will bring their more progressive politics with them and, over time, bring about political change. For example, more liberal voters moving to the South and West may have tipped Georgia and Arizona to Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Be careful what you wish for...

Despite the narrative FOX News and online trolls would love for you to believe, the "exodus" is not former Democrats "getting fed up with progressive policies," it's largely low and middle income Republicans getting pushed out by rising cost of living and moving to a lower cost of living area. Yes, those areas also better align with their preexisting political beliefs, but usually so did their previous area as well.

The CA to TX pipeline is not latte sipping SF residents moving to jesusland, it's people from the Inland Empire, Bay Area outskirts, etc. moving to the suburbs of Houston and Dallas.

Nobody is rooting for an exodus from blue states.
We are just stating facts.
I also don't understand those who move to get away from ridiculous policies that have caused a decline in the standard of living in blue cities and then vote for the same kind of politicians who would enact similar policies in their new home. That is the definition of insanity.

They're not moving away due to "ridiculous policies." They're moving away due to lower taxes, cheaper housing, and lower cost of living in red states. But the lower cost of living comes at the expense of public services, infrastructure, and public education, which are inferior in most red states. Eventually, the transplants will change the areas they have moved to, and that change will probably be in a more progressive direction.

Check that. A more regressive direction. Socialism is regressive and in the end leads to eating zoo animals.

Socialism is a loosely defined and very broad concept that is used by people like you to silence thoughtful discussion. Why are you so full of fear?

"Liberal" is a cloak for greed in California, not an actual lived ideal. It's hypocrisy and abandonment of the vulnerable where it really counts.

Northern CA is super libertarian and SF looks like it's a libertarian paradise.

I understand what you're saying, but the GOP is three steps ahead. They've gerrymandered things so that dems would need 95% of the vote to win even 60% won't even cut it.

I truly don’t understand the conservative targeting of SF. I am as liberal as they come and northern CA is not some sort of liberal paradise. It is run by Silicon Valley and the tech bros. It is primarily libertarian. Yes CA generally votes very blue. But so does Austin. I am not sure I understand why this obsession with SF. Nancy Pelosi has stepped off the national stage so maybe things will subside somewhat.

Conservatives really do not have much input on these type of things. This is generated by the professional conservative agitator class, pick up by the conservative online influencers & bots and absorb by the legions of conservatives trolls some of whom post here.

Legion of conservative trolls are usually isolated, underemployed, conservative social media types. If you talk to them 75-85% of the time you have no idea what they are talking about unless you are also down the rabbit.

You truly don't understand?

It's not libertarian. It's liberal.

As failed policies set in and results are seen, you expect higher taxes to bail out failure.

I'm non-plussed by the word "truly" being thrown around on DCUM. It means just the opposite on this site. Also, whydo you have to state you bona fides before making a point. You're ananymous! Don't give me your title. As a blah blah blah. NO. Just state your case. Everyone who tells me what they are is just so transparent; you're the opposite.

The BS flows like water here.
