Dating a conservative

Will he expect you to change your name when you marry? Would he support you terminating an unwanted or unviable pregnancy? Would he treat your daughters the same as your sons? Would he contribute equally in the home?

I have a very conservative husband and I still have my name after 20+ years of marriage, he was very supporting during my abortion, he treats our daughters very well (they are apple in his eyes), and he contribute 80% toward all house work (I don't cook and I don't clean).

Then your DH is no longer really a conservative. He's what MAGA would call a RINO.

What makes him “very conservative”? Sounds like he is just acting in his own self-interest in his personal life.

A conservative is a liberal who got mugged.

Yes, conservatives really don't get it.

I agree with the progressives who are advocating strict gun control, especially in our urban minority areas which suffer far more both absolutely, and proportionately, from gun violence (think of Chicago for example).

Lock those illegal gun owning/using b*stards up and throw away the key!!!!

We already have the laws in place to do this. The blue cities, even in red states, have very tough gun laws.

Now, it's just a matter of enforcing those laws. Why won't those conservatives running Chicago, New York, New Orleans, L.A., etc. etc., enforce the gun laws that are on the books?

Those darn conservatives running our big cities are the cause of all the crime, violence and misery.

EVERYONE knows that.

Of course, since illegal gun possession, usage, and gun crime disproportionately will impact minorities if existing gun laws are rigorously enforced, much less strengthened, in our cities....then doesn't that mean that gun control is RACISSSSTTTT????

Why are CONSERVATIVES so irrational?

Someone please tell me.

RINOs are conservatives, MAGA are not.

Rs/MAGA don't support abortion. That is not the party platform. Keep up.

Also, MAGA are now the R party. You lost that battle.

Not much of a conservative if he can't even conserve the existence of his own child...

Great question since nobody seems to understand conservative values.

Individual Freedom- this is why true conservatives support abortion. Anybody who doesn’t is supporting a theocracy.

Limited government: Though that does not mean allowing capitalism to the point of monopolies, supporting environmental protections like most farmer do but not to the point you are forcing everyone to be vegan because cows fart.

Free market: but not monopolies - no bankers should have ever been paid out under Obama

Fiscal responsibility: both trump and Obama sucked at this

Strong defense: not waging silly wars for monetary reasons

No they have not.

I get you got scared and ran but some stayed and are fighting.

You had no problem with Regan so you might want some self reflection.

I wasn't scared. I left long before Trump. I had no problem with Reagan because I was also blind back then. Rs aren't the party of family values that I thought they were, nor do they actually support Christ like values they espouse.

Moderate Dems believe similarly to above. Biden just expanded the military budget.

Since when did "true" conservatives support abortion?

BTW, Bush also bailed out banks.

You are so confused.

please. Conservative men don't believe in equal housework and childcare.

I grew up in a conservative household.

Liberal men are much more aware of women's rights than conservative men, who really don't care much about women's rights.

Also, the highly educated tend to be liberal.

I disagree, I’m very liberal.

Conservative men fix things, take care of the lawn/yard, paint rooms, fix light fixtures, do the taxes, grill, take orders when there is a party, plan tail gates, do the dishes, take their plates to the sink, set up tvs, move furniture, coach kids sports teams, help with nighttime routine (anything family), etc.

Things are equal but fall on gender norm lines.

haha .. my liberal DH does all of it, and cooks, not just grill, bakes, fixes all kinds of things (neighbors all come to him for help fixing stuff), and he's an engineer. But, I do the taxes.

Conservative men aren't doing much childcare or cooking and baking. Please.

Tail gate? LOL That's super important housework. LOL

You missed the point!

Yes conservative men to care for children but just not in the way you agree.

And southerners tailgate Friday night/Saturday and Sunday.

Grilling is cooking

You aren’t talking about conservatives you are talking about jerks. There are plenty of liberal men who can’t cut a lawn or install a light fixture.

I didn't miss the point. Conservative men mostly have traditional gender roles, and doing housechorse and childcare is a traditionally female's role. If you mean they care for their children by working, guess what.. most women work and do housechores/childcare, too.

I didn't realize Conservative only meant "southerners". LOL. I think you mean "traditional southern" people, not "conservatives". But, I'm sure you know that there are conservatives in other parts of the country, right? LOL

No taking care of children is not "traditional female roles" after men get home from work. Actually it's the opposite. Conservative men are actually very involved in care of children after they get home from work, but yes, they work so they are not involved from 9-5 but neither are working women.

Conservative is not a Monolith nor is Liberal, you are joking if you think all liberal men are doing bedtime routine 50/50. I was giving and example.

Conservative men are coaching teams, boy scouts, church groups, football games, baseball games, etc.

51% of conservatives support LGBT rights/marriage.
40% support immigration support
50% support gun control

You really have been snowed by the Trump GOP and have forgotten there is a whole group of conservative that are not them.

lol. I need a source for your %s.

The front runner for 2024 for the GOP is Trump. He has a much bigger lead than the next R. So yes, Trump GOP = GOP.

I seriously doubt that most conservative men are doing childcare duty, cooking, cleaning after work. I'm sure there are a few, but I doubt the vast majority of conservative men are what you are describing.

Most hilarious to see in this thread repeated warnings that conservative men won’t do housework, cooking, childcare.

The most common complaint in DCUM Relationships is that men don’t do those things. I’d venture to guess that the vast majority of DCUM women making these complaints are married to liberal men (Democrats, anyway). So it’s liberal men, in reality, who don’t do housework, cooking, childcare…

LOL.. re-read your own statement. The vast majority of posters on here are Dems, that's why they complain about their probably Dem DH.

R women have been brainwashed to believe that housechores and childcare are their responsibility, and that a man just needs to take their dirty plates to the sink and organize tailgates and grill. LOL. That's why they don't complain as much. I'm betting those R men don't do diaper duty or middle of the night feeds.

[LOL it is very obvious that you don't know any conservative women just like you don't know any conservative men. Very predictably on DCUM, you are attacking your mental caricature of what conservatives are, not what they actually are. I assure you that conservative women expect men to pitch in with housework and childcare. And yeah... conservative women do plenty of complaining... because after all, they are women.]

When the "grab'em by the p*s" tape came out, I recall some conservative women saying that this was all locker talk, and boys being boys, and it's not a big deal if a man/boy gropes women. It's "normal". Conservative women have been brainwashed.

[Again. You don't know any conservative women. And what about all the liberal women making excuses for p*ssy grabber and adulterer Bill Clinton, among many others? Those women are brainwashed to think anything goes, so long as a Democrat does it.]

And btw I never stated that all liberal men do the housechores; I stated that they support policies regarding women's rights, and conservative men largely do not.

[Liberal men give lip service to women's rights, but don't actually do anything to help women around the house. Yay, I guess. And apparently you're ok with that. OK then LOL.]

But, the poster who did start out with "conservative men make great husbands and dads" is a man. I'm sure of it. No woman thinks taking their dirty dishes to the sink and organizing tailgating = great husband. Or maybe conservative women do.

[Your opinion on whether or not conservative men make great husbands and dads would be more impressive if you actually knew any.]

Where did pp say that it was his child? This might have been a relationship prior to theirs.

Or you could say, "Conservatives are the forced-don't kill a fetus which is a potential human life party."
