It's not like getting rid of federal taxes in D.C. is actually a choice anyone is presenting as a real option, though.

If the Republicans wanted to play the long game they should get rid of fed taxes in DC and cap the DC Council's right to raise income taxes. Housing prices would skyrocket a people clamor to claim DC residency. DC would become incredibly affluent in 30 years. (and all those rich people would be far more likely to vote Republican). Then there could be a push to make DC a state with the possibility of adding new R senators to the roster.
