30 year DC Resident and Dem. Couldn't be happier to see this bill tanked by Congress. And I won't be back in favor of statehood until the looney tunes on the Council get tossed off in favor of more moderate Dems. So, so, sick of the uptick in crime and the tone deafness of DC pols. |
Suck it Council. |
I didn't love the bill, but I hate the incursion on my rights. I'd rather take the opportunity to vote out the Council Members I disagree with rather than have Congress intervene. |
+1. I was all for statehood until the last year. What is the goal here? Anarchy? |
Some people I assume are really smart are falling for some embarrasing propaganda re: RCCA. This wasn't the beginning of the purge like the people you are clearly following got you to believe. Very weird that you are celebrating our autonomy being taken away. I don't like a lot of things the city does; I wouldn't go crying to MTG and Joe Manchin to fix it for me. |
This. Every other major city has a state government to check the craziest laws and this 'reform' clearly qualifies. DC without a check would be a disaster |
Hi, cops! |
Thank you Mr. President for protecting me against my crazy council-member and ANC commissioners. |
I feel bad (but not really) for CM Frumin who got sold a bill of goods by his socialist colleagues and ended up publicly soiling himself on the first week of the job. He was a Clinton guy and is supposed to know better. |
Good. |
A diplomat being mugged by 3 people in a stolen Hyundai, in broad daylight, near the State Department earlier today was the cherry on the sundae of what a SS the Council has created. Had they read the room and passed along the 95% of the bill that was non-controversial to the Congress post election all would have been well. They put national Dems in a bad position and for what, exactly? So what should have been done, responsibly, will happen now, after a blow to statehood instead? On another + safety note, a bill was introduced to keep SROs in DC schools, sponsored by Gray, Pino and T. White. |
Yes, because everyone who opposes reducing criminal penalties is a cop. Face it: the majority of people don't support soft-on-crime policies. Your side is losing and will continue to lose. |
Hard to do when Charles Allen was unopposed. The violent muggings of a Congresswoman and a diplomat, while unfortunate, may have helped bring attention that walked some of the excess back. |
Smart decision. Democrats don't like crime either. |
