Bombshell: NYT story suggests Alito is the leaker of Dobbs decision

The liberals already lost either way. The 3 Justices with motives to leak were Alito and Thomas, to generate public pressure on the 3 Trump Justices to stick with them, and Roberts, to generate public pressure to get Kavanaugh and/or Barrett to side with him. The leak had to come from one of the three or from an anti-abortion source that one of the three had leaked to. Maybe the leak was only intended to be shared among the anti-abortion community so they could pressure Barrett and Kavanaugh, but somebody tipped off the press.

Mitch McConnell would have a motive to leak, to keep the issue from popping up close to the election.
Liberals had motive to put pressure on the other judges to change their votes.

Mitch McConnell shouldn’t know anything. It would have to be leaked by someone inside SCOTUS for McConnell to know the status, and he wouldn’t leak to the press, he has more influence behind the scenes through lobbyists than in the public. The liberals knew that Barrett and Kavanaugh were never going to vote with them on this. The leak did nothing for liberals. All the pressure on B and K came from Alito/Thomas and Roberts. Roberts didn’t leak it, the point of the leak was to tip off anti-abortion zealots that Roberts was trying to block them from overturning Roe. It had to come from Alito or Thomas or someone in their camp.

I disagree entirely. The leaker was obviously a liberal who was eager to get this out in order to drum up as much outrage as possible. Mission accomplished.

That doesn’t make any sense. The liberal outrage was inevitable whenever the ruling came out. The leak didn’t increase the amount of liberal outrage. The liberals probably didn’t even know the details of the drama between Alito and Roberts. The internal dispute was all on the anti-abortion side, over how far the decision would go. The liberals were not involved in that.

Hobbs was going to be either a 5-4 decision written by Alito overturning Roe or a 6-3 decision written by Roberts upholding Mississippi’s ban after 15 weeks but not overturning Roe, with Alito writing a Concurrence in support of overturning Roe, joined by two or three other Justices. The leak story said they tentatively had the five votes to overturn but Roberts was trying to peel one vote off to merely uphold 15 weeks. The point of the leak was to stop Roberts and it succeeded.

Roberts has been fully cuckolded as Chief Justice. He really should resign out of sheer weakness.

There are plenty of indications that Alito was involved in the leak. He’s the most likely to think that sharing insider information with right-wing interested parties and lobbyists is ok for right-wingers.

No, there are not "plenty of indications." There is one dinner involving a woman who completely denies the claim that the pastor made. You're welcome to feverishly speculate and hypothesize - as long as you understand there is zero proof of what you assert.

You will not get through to people here. Everything to them is sensationalistic, and essentially a made-for-TV movie or series. If you think back over time at all the threads that died due to the truth coming out, and all the people they worshipped who ended up in jail, it’s pretty clear that facing the truth is hard stuff. It took the media, what, two YEARS to admit there might be truth to a piece of technical equipment?

People here are all hat and no cattle. It’s all emotion, no fact.

He’s an embarrassment on several levels. He presides over a joke of a court, a body that has absolutely no sense of legitimacy for most people anymore. Two stolen seats, three if you count Kennedy’s compelled retirement, all of the conservative members having lied in all of their confirmation hearings and happy to enslave women, one attempted rapist… it’s a mess.

A leaky, judicially active mess.

Everyone should resign except for the leftist judges because - compromised, rapist, jokes.

+1 If anything the leak lessened the outrage because it diffused it and moved it earlier and less close to the election. The decision was always going to come down in June.

+3
When the leak happened, to the GOP the leak was the worst betrayal of America’s trust ever. Now that we’ve all had time to think about it and that there’s evidence that Alito is a scuzzy jerk who thinks he’s above everything, suddenly the leak doesn’t matter to them? The leak benefited the GOP by diffusing the anger, killing more women and locking in the wavering vote. It’s the worst kind of judicial activism.

Having the liberal outrage come in early May instead of late June was obviously also bad for liberals since it was further away from the election. It definitely came from a conservative- the only question is whether it was the Roberts camp or the Alito camp.

DP. It makes perfect sense. Once it was leaked, the left’s outrage machine kicked into high gear. The point being to try and intimidate the court into not formally overturning Roe.
