No I was taught this. I just think it’s dumb and ignore it. And I don’t view these events as “gift grabs”. I don’t have any friends who actually need my gift. They can easily afford to buy whatever they want and need.

If you had a baby shower thrown by your friend, you are participating in exactly as much of a gift grab as someone whose shower was thrown by a relative.
