Okay so I think Simone Ashley is absolutely gorgeous, but now I can see why some people might have a different opinion (unrelated to race).
And maybe that’s kind of the point? Maybe those in charge of casting *wanted* actresses who weren’t classically beautiful. That is sort of a theme in many romance novels. Maybe it’s just nice to sometimes see women who are amazing inside but not gifted with the most gorgeous features get the hot guy. But I still don’t think Daphne and Kate are as unattractive or plain as others think. I think Daphne was pretty in a renaissance painting kind of way. |
Thank you for the last paragraph ❤️ |

I think Kate is pretty. I think she's a good actress.
I'm more annoyed at the way they rewrote the story. In the book, Edwina was very much not into Anthony so it didn't feel as wrong when Kate ended up with him. In the show, Edwina very much wants him and will end up getting pretty hurt (I haven't finished but I don't see it going any other way). I don't like this change. |
She didn’t love the Duke either. She thought he was attractive, acted like a teenager and kissed him.’then was forced to marry him Because she would have been exiled. She’s Been forced to make it work. Their love story is awful. |
| The whole thing was a snooze fest. |
Indian here, and the problem is that Simone Ashley would never make it in Indian cinema either, since Indians themselves prefer white looking actresses. We are a self hating culture. Remnants of being colonized for 300 years I guess. Anyway, I loved Simone Asley and C.Chandran the actress who played Edwina - they look like more typical Desi people than Priyanka. I also thought they did great, acting-wise. But I think the script writers really messed up here - the book's basic plot was stronger, and there was just a lot more tension in the novel. Also, definitely agree it needed to be a lot steamier (maybe not as much as season 1 though which was like soft porn) |
| I am on episode 3 of season two and hate it. None of the characters are likeable. |

I thought both Kate and Edwina were almost distractingly beautiful. Who are you weirdos finding fault with them?? (j/k)
Also distracting but not in a good way-- Eloise's hair being down. Agree with PP that it's deliberate so she can blossom later but still hated the hair. I like Anthony's story. He was uninteresting and unappealing in season 1, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that he could carry off the hero role. I couldn't at all enjoy the scene before the wedding when the the Sharmas were putting the turmeric cream on Edwina and then each other. I appreciated seeing this cultural tradition but kept thinking, OMG, don't get that on your beautiful dresses, you'll ruin them! Why weren't they wearing robes or shifts or something instead? Loved the former boxer turned club owner. Wouldn't mind seeing a little more of him than we did this season. Agree with the PP who enjoyed the older women. The queen, Lady Danbury, and Lady Bridgerton were great together. The scene with the mad King George was surprisingly heartbreaking. Loved the modern pop music played by string instruments. Wrecking Ball. Material Girl. So fun! |
I am the person you are quoting, and I thank you for admitting your unconscious bias. It is something we all have to work on, including me. |
Define classically beautiful? |
|
| On a different topic, I find Eloise so annoying. I don't mind her looks, she's fine. It's just her personality- soooo much worse than in the books! |
100% agree. I fast forward her scenes. I fast forward all of Colin's scenes. I fast forward all of Benedict's scenes. If they are the next three stories to be told, I won't watch. (I also disliked all three of those books...) |
A big head! Just kidding (and I am really glad somebody made that comment, I learned something new about the desirability of big heads lol). I actually do think these actresses are very beautiful, but I can see how others think that there are more beautiful actresses out there. Personally, by my own subjective standards, Kate I think was just straight-up gorgeous, but like I said I think Daphne’s beauty isn’t considered the pinnacle of attractiveness according to today’s standards. |

Why do the characters need to be perfectly beautiful?
The whole premise of this part of the discussion is just odd and not cool. |
