Public Trump Impeachment Hearing Mega Thread

Trump didn't have a "corrupt" state of mind because he felt so deeply wronged by Ukraine and he didn't trust them.

So as many predicted, they're being forced to admit that Trump did withhold aid from Ukraine and demand investigations but it was because he so firmly believed he knows more about what was "really" going on in Ukraine than the professionals.

I was actually thinking about this yesterday. I mean it seems totally credible to me that Trump actually BELIEVES the nutso conspiracy theories. So to the extent he is pursuing them, he is acting in good - if stupid and wrong - faith. Is that a defense? Maybe? Like he LIVES in Qanon territory, I think - they love him because they all believe the same crazy things.

Then it needs to be pointed out that Rudy's crazy theories (as propagated by Hannity & Fox News and John Solomon and Victoria Toensing/Joe DiGenova, etc, etc) were being fed to them by Russian-backed Ukrainians - such as Firtash.

So then it follows that the President's decisions are based on Russian talking points and he is betraying his oath of office to protect and defend our country.

But he didn't want ACTUAL investigations. He just wanted the announcement of investigations.

I am the PP - and right, you are right. He only wanted to hobble Biden with the announcement of an investigation.

Let's be clear. He wanted to hobble Biden by running a psy-op against the American people using full on propaganda.

The fact that Bolton comes out of this looking like a man of integrity and principles really shows just how terrible all the other players are.

He in now way looks like a man of integrity, only one of slightly less dishonesty than the rest of those traitors.

I mean I agree, the bar is low.

Actually, he is looking pretty terrible for refusing to testify and instead signing a book deal to tell his story. His public testimony could easily be the difference between conviction or not in the Senate. He has the credibility on the right to swag public opinion of Trump supporters.

He may have refused to participate in the Ukraine shenanigans, but if Trump is removed for this, he will be emboldened to do far worse and some of the responsibility for that will rest on Bolton.

Crazy theory, but still, no, it would not be a defense. Had that been his intention or goal, there were legal channels to pursue that. He did not use them.

It works if the theory is also that he feels deeply wronged and deeply distrusts all of the organized government agencies. He can only trust Rudy to ferret out all the wrongs against him.
But - such beliefs reveal a deeply paranoid and mentally ill individual, and then the 25th comes in.

Still no. He did it. It was wrong. “I did it because I’m paranoid” isn’t a defense to impeachment.

Agree. He can do a book deal but not testify? No.

PP here, I agree, was more just thinking of in today’s testimony and not wanting to “have any part” of the “drug deal.” Likely more a calculation on his part than actual integrity and principles!

Well duh.

Can anyone think otherwise? They're all looking out for themselves, and since they have different relationships with the President and varying levels of financial dependency on the success of this administration, they all need to make their own decision.

Yes. He knew it would become a cluster. I don't think Bolton cared that it would hurt human beings in Ukraine.

Not true. Taylor, Kent, Yovanovitch, Vindman, Cooper, Holmes, Hill are clearly motivated by protecting our national security

By "They're" I think you mean the people involved in the shakedown, not the witnesses.
