Public Trump Impeachment Hearing Mega Thread

Trump didn't have a "corrupt" state of mind because he felt so deeply wronged by Ukraine and he didn't trust them.

So as many predicted, they're being forced to admit that Trump did withhold aid from Ukraine and demand investigations but it was because he so firmly believed he knows more about what was "really" going on in Ukraine than the professionals.

I was actually thinking about this yesterday. I mean it seems totally credible to me that Trump actually BELIEVES the nutso conspiracy theories. So to the extent he is pursuing them, he is acting in good - if stupid and wrong - faith. Is that a defense? Maybe? Like he LIVES in Qanon territory, I think - they love him because they all believe the same crazy things.

This guy has been doing the same thing for ... about 15 years.

That said, I enjoy the intelligent story told by Goldman when questioning witnesses. And Castor entertains me.

Why didn't the minority side hire somebody else? There are so many Federalists who would love this gig and would shine.

This is the myth but we now see that it's just not true.

If there were that my brilliant Federalists, so many of Trump's judicial appointees wouldn't garner such low ABA ratings.

Except that nothing that he did was targeted to any of his imaginary complaints about Ukraine.

If he thought they were still corrupt or that European nations should pay more or any of the other lame excuses for withholding the security assistance, he and Mulvaney would not keep that reason secret from Congress, DOD, and the State Department, he would be telling them to fix the problem, and he would not be sending everyone to talk to Rudy about investigating the Bidens/Burisma and the idiotic 2016 conspiracy theory.

Nothing that he demanded was addressed to current conditions in Ukraine. Everything that he demanded was for his political benefit to use in the 2020 campaign to exonerate Putin, Manafort, and the Trump 2016 campaign or to smear Biden and the Democrats with whataboutism.

How are all the White Old Man allowed to behave and act criminally if they "truly feel" wronged and black and brown men/women deserve bullet "for scaring others" even when they have done nothing wrong?

Crazy theory, but still, no, it would not be a defense. Had that been his intention or goal, there were legal channels to pursue that. He did not use them.

If might be enough of a defense in the court of public opinion, which is almost everything.

But he didn't want ACTUAL investigations. He just wanted the announcement of investigations.

No, no it isn’t. We aren’t a dictatorship yet, try though the GOP does to get us there.

It works if the theory is also that he feels deeply wronged and deeply distrusts all of the organized government agencies. He can only trust Rudy to ferret out all the wrongs against him.
But - such beliefs reveal a deeply paranoid and mentally ill individual, and then the 25th comes in.

Public opinion = how the Senate will vote
Public opinion = electoral college

That's almost everything.

I am the PP - and right, you are right. He only wanted to hobble Biden with the announcement of an investigation.
