ok and what about field space for practice and a responsive punctual front office. What commitments do they have. That coach is an awesome addition but how does the overall package compare?

Bandaid is a bandaid. They have a lot to fix.

No question they have a lot to fix but two years straight of major changes have been tough.

If you’re coming from McLean and you are evaluating coaching assignments, do you really believe the McLean AGD, that will most certainly be the u13 coach, is a better option than whoever Union chooses? I think Union could choose DB again and it would still be a better option.

Yes, of course. Union is recurring drama (for years, not just the last month) and offers little in terms of stability. Since college recruiting doesn't happen at u13 or u14, why would a family choose chaos over a coach that has a great local reputation (though not a regional/national reputation)? Would a 2014 parent look at the DB situation with the 2013 Union team and say 'yeah, i want more of that!!'? And even at the older ages, where is the stability and confidence that Union is trending in the right direction? CW is great, but he's not coaching every team and who knows when he'll retire.

I know Valor dad is excited about Union, but I haven't heard parents from other Union feeder clubs (in person or on this forum) that are excited about Union in terms of being a long-term destination. And if you were on MYS and wanted to get on a "better" team at the 2014 age group, your options are either Arlington (probably the best team in the area) or Loudoun. VDA might be a good long-term option, but they're not that strong right now... Those options seem much more obvious than taking a risk with Union.

Correction -- Union is excited about Valor! Everyone here has been saying that the alliance does not matter, but internals seem otherwise. Also, who outside the alliance would come to Union -- it's a complete clown show. Valor is the only alliance club for 2014 that has a chance to Make Union Great Again! I think I even saw MV wearing a MUGA hat.

hilarious satire, good job.

No one uses the work "excite" and 'Valor" in the same sense. Valor is the club of last resort when kids can't make better teams and employer of last resort when coaches/parent coaches can't get jobs anywhere else.

Before the DB debacle round deux, people suggested that team is staying with McLean. FVU sounds like a complete disaster with the continued risk of losing their badge. That said, I’m not sure why you would switch over there at this point vs letting the next few years play out. My hunch is FVU takes a few players from Valor and the rest are a mostly crew of kids from other clubs. And Yes, this team will not be competitive in ECNL for a variety of reasons. The only thing that may change all of this is a really strong coach, which seems unlikely given all of the recent antics.

Valor Dad is back!

Valor kids are so poorly trained and not technical, I honestly can't think of any girls who came from Valor on any FVU team.
Yes, but the 2014s have a few technically strong kids who train a lot outside of the club as do most kids.

If they were decent they wouldn't play for Valor. Sorry! Truth hurts!

And what amazing team does your DC play for?
So no one prioritizes proximity to their house when kids are young?

We prioritized it for a couple of years. But after that we just couldn't overlook the lack of technical training. I don't know about the girls side, but for the boys side we were told by parents of older kids that Valor has a reputation for not getting players ready for higher level leagues or even competitive high school teams. It becomes more noticeable at 11v11.

Making Onion great again implies it once was great.

No one's as good as the (former) MYS 2013s, so that's an odd comparison. But the 2014 and 2015 girls teams along with the 2016 boys teams are definitely attracting local talent. So clearly some outside families are looking at MYS as a destination club for these age groups. Long-term, that's probably a good sign for the girls side but unclear on the boys side since they don't have top MLS option.

2016 boys are not sticking around.

Says who?

They are there because of their coach, not the club.

Valor pays the director $500k yearly. I’m not sure your argument makes sense

Director doesn’t make anything close to that. Stop trolling.
