| So what is the end goal here, to play in college? If so, you can't really go wrong whether it is DA or ECNL and for that matter any travel team that might not be in DA or ECNL. So, for those people that get caught up in the politics of which is better and sweating over if their daughter will get a call is crazy. Look at your own situation and make a decision based on that, not what someone else is doing or telling you to do. |
Here we go again. The kids you are talking about are ECNL kids that have been in the system. These kids have been verbally committed before DA existed. |
Then you just don't know the facts. FCV does not place as many to top programs as McLean and Bethesda. Not saying they do bad, but those two programs are better for placements. Also, their players are ranked higher than FCV by soccer sites that track recruiting. This information is pretty easy to find. Now you can disagree with the recruiting sites, that's your call. |
Well then...which one can you tell me about? |
Before you cry foul GDA guy, we are talking about right now, this year, not 5 years from now. In 5 years 100 things will have changed. |
List seems to be shrinking over the last few years |
Spirit GDA guy...where are you? |
DC United plays some of its DPs. |
That trend may continue. The class of 2020 for FCV DA is actually pretty good compared to younger teams. 2021 class and beyond is not as talented and the results show. FCV DA Standings trend is down 2020 class - FCV U16/17 is 16-6-4 in 26 games 2021 class - FCV U15 is 13-10-3 in 26 games 2022 class - FCV U14 12-8-3 in 23 games TopDrawerSoccer Club Player Rankings drop off - Mid Atlantic 2020 class - FCV has 5 in top 18 2021 class - FCV has 1 in top 13 (only 13 tracked so far - FCV girl is #13) |
Probably a few factors at play here but among them is that it is not uncommon to see possession based clubs struggle at younger ages. |
Not sure if all the commits are here, but quick search tool is cool. Quick search shows Bethesda at top of 2019 commits, but FCV so far on top of 2020. http://www.soccerwire.com/ncaa-womens-soccer-commitment-tracker-class-of-2019/ |
..and keep in mind DAs have two year age groups U16/17 and U18/19. Only 10 juniors if 50/50 mix on U16/17. |
Yes, the end goal for most all of the players is generally to continue playing in college, so yes, for girls DA and ECNL, at present they both offer players opportunities to play higher level soccer and to be seen and recruited by college coaches. For other programs outside of these, you can still pursue recruitment opportunities, it is just that they require more work on behalf of the player to make sure they are seen by the schools they would like to go to. As for DA and ECNL end goals, the DA's top priority is developing players for the National Team player pools with college soccer secondary (though still very important). ECNL obviously likes it when their players are named to the various National Team camps and rosters and markets that, but ECNL's top selling point are their showcase tournaments for college recruiting, with National Team call ups secondary. |

Nobody cares what the goal of the ECNL or DA is. Kids in both leagues want the same thing. College. That is the end goal.

Maybe on the girls side... On the boys side, some of them just want to play good socce and some want to play professionally. As for the DA, it wouldn't be around if not for improving the development pathways for the national team. |
