Does a player who is unknown to them prior to tryouts have any sort of chance? A bit frustrated because DC left a team where they almost certainly would have been one of the kids picked to be looked at by the FVU coaches, but on new team does not have access to such opportunities. It was DC's choice to leave the old team due to a toxic coach and teammates. Maybe would have wanted to stick it out if we had known how FVU was handling things this year. I do find it hard to believe a couple of the kids from the old team have a real shot at making the FVU team, but at least they are getting exposure to the coaches.

If your kids good they are good, coaches will take the best. But if you knew you wanted to go to fvu in the long run, you probably should have tried to stick it out. Coaches talk and what they say to each other also holds high value

Nahh, you’ll be ok being at McLean. They aren’t taking many from the “Alliance” anyways.

Thanks for the response (all be it late), but we're not at McLean. When we were leaving our club it was not part of the alliance. Now we are at Loudoun and wouldn't mind trying out FVU. I know my DC would make it but how do I get her looked at by FVU earlier to tryouts. I know a lot of people here are saying FVU will take the best and others are now saying that "alliance" teams are getting early looks and coaches already know who they want. A lot of confusion here.
If you are so confident that your kid is better than others and will make the team, why do you care about getting early looks? Whats the end goal here? Also, no one knows who the coaches are, especially if a rising u13.

This! You should know by now that if your player is good coaches will happily take them. Early looks don't secure spots on teams.

Recently, people on here are saying that their kids are getting early looks because they are an alliance member and that the coaches already pretty much know who they are going to take. Then you have other people on here saying alliance is a marketing gimmick and that these coaches will take any talented kid that shows up. I suspect the truth lays somewhere in between. My two cents -- email DB (the current U13 FVU coach) and ask if your kid can come to a couple practices of the current 2013 and give your DC's credentials. If your kid is worth looking at then he will be interested. I would not wait to just show up at tryouts and try to distinguish your kid from the rest. Any early looks is going to be beneficial -- that is the one advantage (and perhaps only advantage) that the alliance members get. If you are a McLean kid then DB most likely already knows your DC and will be more than happy to talk. If not a McLean player, then email him as soon as you're ready and ask to have your kid get looked at. Try not to get trapped in the "alliance" debate (gimmick vs. guarantee) -- know one here can say with 100% certainty.

All good advice except for reaching out to DB. Reaching out to MV or CW makes the most sense.

I disagree. DB is definitely the best person to reach out to. He knows the McLean players well so he can stack up your DC against what they would bring. CW is going to retire soon and I would pass on contacting MV. DB also most likely couldn’t care less about the alliance. He’s going to take the best players period.

Me thinks you have no idea how Union operates internally. DB doesn’t care about the alliance but spends half his time with Bryc?

When Bryc pays him a salary, he better be with Bryc.

If only 18 months in he would have the skills to communicate with any of his players or their parents.

Wait, so he is one of the best coaches but lacks any communication skills? Doesn’t this go hand in hand? Honestly, I know nothing about him and little about FVU coaches other than CW and DB. Other than those two, has there been consistency on the girls side? Is MW good?

fvu will be fine. They said this last year. This year the boys and girls minus two teams suck. They will maintain ecnl status however because they have a trapped audience and ecnl wants a Fairfax team.

Fvu will go GA….. just in your dreams

I don’t think so. MV has all of the college connections that he doesn’t need to communicate with players. You either have it or don’t. If you do, he will let you know and D1 scholarships to Stanford, UVA, UNC, etc. are automatic. If you don’t, you will never hear from him and you should leave for another club because he will talk s*it about your DD to all of the college coaches.

I think PP is being sarcastic. MV doesn’t have any college connections but the lack of communication and shit talking about players is definitely what I have seen.
