and their kids aren't unbearable like all the other hw shows. I don't love Grizella but I love seeing her girls. Same wth Robyn's kids and I love seeing baby Dean. Even Karen's daughter, who you'd think would be insufferable like her mom, was a fine young woman. These east coast moms do the kid thing right. |
I'm the PP to whom you responded and I have no idea what your point is or what question you are referring to. I was agreeing with you. This was my first reply to this thread, I didn't call anyone mixed-race and I was addressing that race (mixed or not, due to choice or not) matters little as it's how others see you that 'matters' in the US. That doesn't make any of us special. Please don't feel a need to respond-just not sure why you are salty. I like how different the ladies are yet though they disagree and talk crap about each other more than some other franchises, they seem to genuinely LIKE each other, which is nice to see. (until this Monique/Candiace thing) |
I agree, it's the most natural group of the franchise. Robin has her moments but she is as real as it gets. Giselle, Ashley and Candiace are hilarious. The women all have some money, but they are not there to brag about it. I loved that conversation about being "angry black women". It was great to listen in on. They're a more intelligent group than Atlanta. If they were filming during BLM protests during the spring, I'd love to hear what they have to say. |
Wendy the political commentator with 4 degrees is annoying. I’m trying to figure out why she had a sip & see for her third child.
*Sigh* I love Potomac but the women on here are too “regular” Bring more women who have a background like Gizelle/Robyn and money like Monique. Or a humble to rich story like Ashley/Karen. |
Because that is part of her Nigerian culture. As she clearly stated. So you can drop your white Western expectations about what is appropriate, because they don't apply to her culture. -White woman |
Ummm you don’t need to be hyper aggressive. This is an American show in America. The point of reality tv is to reflect much of the culture of the people that watch the show. It’s why shows like the Kardashians lasted so long because they were more American than Armenian. |
i thought it was to celebrate her first daughter. |
I had a sip and see with my third child. It's a chance to hold and cuddle up to a newborn (pre-covid obviously). We didn't play baby shower games, or expect any gifts. We had champagne, brunch, chatted and passed the baby. It was much better than a shower. |
To celebrate her first daughter makes sense but to have sip and sees for third children is tacky. People usually send an photographed announcement |
I'd never even heard of a sip and see until Phaedra. Wendy clearly stated it was a cultural/Nigerian thing and it was gonna be over the top. I don't think they much care if western culture find it tacky. |
I am not sure if that part about it being Nigerian is true. Things You'll Hear Only At A Southern Sip 'N See https://www.southernliving.com/culture/sip-and-see-party This article was written in 2018. |
I used no foul language or caps. I literally said nothing "aggressive." I simply stated facts. You can keep your "ummmmm." I'm perfectly comfortable when people have a different point of view. I'm sorry that you are not and that you feel so defensive. Wendy is American. So she reflects American culture. Like many Anericans, her family heritage also includes cultures from different countries. The interweaving of these perspectives and traditions is what makes American culture. |
My God that was painful. Basically AAs are mixed from slavery such as myself (70% AA 27% European) but we do not identify as mixed because it comes from slavery and the history of the one drop rule where we are considered black regardless of of any European mixture. However technically we are mixed and so are many light skinned blacks. People who have a black and/or white parent identify as bi racial and some say racially mixed black. I thought Ashley was bi racial but her mother may be. Look at Dean. He looks completely Caucasian. Nothing wrong with that. I am also 1% Native American and Asian. I am also 3% Italian and a little bit of Irish but mainly British. I am careful who I joke with on this because are so damn sensitive these days |
Same. I don’t see it as a gift grab at all. We did one for my second and last child. It was literally just desserts and drinks. We didn’t do any cheesy games or anything. I had it open house style in my home. Friends trickled in over the course of two hours and just snacked and held the baby and caught up. It was very laid back and fun. |
