Their car was parked at the end of Hites Cove Road near the trailheads for both the Hites Cove Trail and Savage-Lundy Trail. The Sheriff has speculated they went down the Hites Cove Trail and attempted to come back up the Savage-Lundy Trail.

So where would their car have been on this map? It was reported that they were found near Devil's Gulch but only 1.5 miles from their car. That doesn't make sense from the map. Their car would have been on the left side of that map.

You are right, thanks. I had those switchbacks almost kind of matching. I will say, the fires are so sad because this area is just stunning. I want to see this whenever covid and the fires are done. There are so many stunning videos of the Sierras. Despite our problems, this is a beautiful country.

The more I read about this couple and the "hiking" community, everyone involved sounds mentally ill. No different than psycho runners who look 20 years older than they are because they're so addicted to breaking their bodies racking up miles. These hiking people sound generally nuts, cringey, and super performative. And they constantly brag about their most "dangerous" hikes. I suspect had they made it, they would have bragged for years how they did this hike in hyper extreme temperatures. That reckless risk was probably part of the thrill. Do that crap on your own time, don't drag an innocent baby and dog.

And yet, something mysterious and unforeseeable, and possibly unpreventable, killed them. The area is now considered too dangerous for the public to enter.

You have to zoom in on satellite view to see the Hites Cove Trail. It is not marked on the map. At the end of the road the Hites Cove Trail goes left and the Savage- Lundy Trail goes right. The meet at the bottom along the Merced River making the 8.5 mile loop.

Yes, the switch backs look very similar. This area is just east of Yosemite Park so it makes for a wonderful vacation spot. Also just a little north is the Hetch Hetchy portion of Yosemite Park. It gets very few visitors but is absolutely gorgeous. Just don't stay at the Yosemite Cedar Lodge (mentioned in the video description) as this was the location of the "Yosemite Murders" back in 1999.

You're a very sad person. You don't know these people and are assuming such ugly things about them. Where were they constantly bragging about their dangerous hikes? Don't feel the need to throw up your bile at the rest of us. The mom had a sm presence. Maybe she thought that could help defray some of the costs of their escapades since she slowed down her career. They loved their kid, their dog, and their lives so I'm going to wait until I learn more and have compassion for them. Have you seen any of the videos of how beautiful the area is that the chose to move to?

My kids who are Eagle Scouts loved their long hikes with the Boy Scouts. They aren't anything like that prior poster mentioned. Some people love the outdoors.

I'm a healthy weight and love to walk and jog. But I still recognize there are mentally ill runners obsessed with racking up miles. And I've read enough about this hiking industry to see it's full of kooks eager to brag about their latest thrill-seeking behavior. You don't take an innocent baby and innocent dog on a trek like this. It's a safe bet the dog or the baby is how they got into trouble.
