What happened to this California family?

There were no marks on the bodies and no wounds. They'd just bought a new AirBnB property as well.

So exactly how would you suggest this murder-suicide happened?

I mean, it’s Occam’s Razor. Toxicology reports will shown the husband poisoned the wife with something in the water, then the baby, dog, and himself.

There are easier ways to poison a family than to go on a hike and hope the spot of water you pick is toxic.

Besides which - poison is mostly a woman's choice of murder/suicide.

I mean, put something in the water they were drinking. Toxic algae is far-fetched. A hike in 100 degree heat when you filled the water bottles is way to ensure it.

Maybe but the water canteens were on the body. Testing wouldn't have taken long to rule out contaminated water?

There was also no cell service in the area they were in, and limited amateur radio repeater coverage, which being Bay Area transplants I doubt they had something like that or a SAT phone in the first place.

Terrifying, we love hiking in California and this beyond bizarre.

I think that sort of testing takes a while.

An article I read said that toxicology would take 2-3 weeks - this initial coroner's report only confirmed that the cause of death was not gunshot, stabbing, blunt force trauma, etc. I imagine toxicology would provide a lot more information.

These kind of situations usually seem to me to be murder-suicide, typically with the male being the perpetrator. Perhaps there is a clue to that in that he was found seated next to the child and dog, but she was found further away, perhaps attempting to flee while he knew what was happening and therefore was calm with the situation. Of course, wild speculation, and the manner of death, if it was intentional, seems strange to not use a gun or other obvious weapon.

Wow. Wild speculation indeed and you accuse the husband of murder.

I was thinking poisoned water, too. It’s the only explanation for the dead dog.

Someone else conjectured it could have been a nearby lightening strike.

I just think its...odd...they died in DEVIL'S GULCH and people are like 'how could this happen'?

I'm not hiking, staying, or stopping at/in anything named Death Valley, Satan's Staircase, or Devil's Gulch.

Usually the name is the clue. Someone needs to look up the history of the area and figure out why it was named that.

You'd see scorch marks in their feet and melted shoes at the very least.

DP. It usually is the husband. But there's also usually abundance evidence the family was murdered - shot, stabbed, strangled being the preference for men.

NP: I think it makes sense, I guess we'll know more in a few weeks.

Poor family. So they ran from Covid just to be killed by something mysterious. How odd.

There was a different incident where a family was found dead (parents and a young daughter) in a remote area. They were looking at property. Their dog and a large amount of cash were found in a locked truck. They found a picture on the camera. Anyone remember this? I can't think of the family's name. Seems eerily similar.

No. I think I would remember that. Also California?
