'21-22' DMV LACROSSE OUTLOOK

Anonymous
This may hurt many parents sensibilities, but lots of lax commits pick other schools over ivies. I know a good number commits who have been offered ivy for lacrosse and chose other schools instead (think UVA, UNC, Michigan, UMD, Notre Dame, Duke, Navy, etc). A good number of boys just aren't interested in attending an Ivy, even if their parents want them to.

Heck yeah. As long you can score above a 32 on the ACT, have at it. High GPA w that ACT score and you can play, and the world is your oyster! High GPA w low ACT/SAT, then no bueno.

All Ivies are test optional. So not exactly.

Not for athletes. They still must submit test scores.

A good number of boys may not be interested in Ivy schools, BUT Ivy academics and a high level of lacrosse is difficult to turn down. Of course, an Ivy education is very expensive and that can drive a family's decision to attend Navy/Maryland/UVA.

I think the point around lacrosse and the Ivy League is that it is one of the only sports where you can truly compete for a National Championship from the League. So, it is actually a viable option for those who want to attend and can be a legit goal to do both. Obviously, there are plenty of great schools that play lacrosse and compete for Natty's, and plenty of kids who could go to an Ivy, but choose one of those other great schools (as mentioned above). It's all good.

Options...I would think that is all any parent would want for their child...options...

For boys, I would add Duke, UNC and UVA to list of top notch academics and opportunity to get a title.

Agree on Duke for academics, but throwing UNC and UVA into the same category academically is laughable to anyone who's gone through the process of looking at these schools with their kids and comparing them. Its really not even close.

I disagree both UVA and UNC are incredible academic opportunities and both teams have won championships in last 5 years, UVA multiple.

UNC is NOWHERE near the level of the Ivies, Duke, Stanford, Hopkins, etc…. UNC is just flat out not an elite academic institution. It’s hard to get in from outside the state but not if you are in NC and it’s just not that impressive.

It’s much easier to make that argument for UVA since it is harder to get in even in state. Plus UVA has some truly elite academic programs and majors. But it is certainly not equal to an Ivy or Stanford or Duke or even the top tier NESCACs academically.

Yes! Please stay away from UNC so my sons chances of playing there are increased!

Lacrosse parents have the wrong priority focus on the wins and loses Yale’s top player transferred to Denver

While I agree with the general premise of your statement, in the case of TD Ierlan, Yale allowed him to transfer credits from Denver so he still graduated with a Yale degree. So in that case, he got to play and get the higher quality diploma.

Yup - point made. Anyone who gave up a Yale diploma for one from Denver would be a moron.

Any '25s that are going to make a difference next year in IAC or WCAC? Arguably the best offensive player in area last year was a '24. Fall ball is starting up and we'll get to see some of these kids. Seems like SJC is top dog by a lot but Prep and Landon will be tight in IAC. Are any teams really going to fall off or make a jump?

WSJ 2021 College Rankings: UNC #31, UVA #51. In the eye of the beholder…..

And yes, please don’t consider UNC so my kid has a snowballs chance in hell of getting in……

I would be thrilled if my smart and athletic child went to UNC.
