This may hurt many parents sensibilities, but lots of lax commits pick other schools over ivies. I know a good number commits who have been offered ivy for lacrosse and chose other schools instead (think UVA, UNC, Michigan, UMD, Notre Dame, Duke, Navy, etc). A good number of boys just aren't interested in attending an Ivy, even if their parents want them to.
A good number of boys may not be interested in Ivy schools, BUT Ivy academics and a high level of lacrosse is difficult to turn down. Of course, an Ivy education is very expensive and that can drive a family's decision to attend Navy/Maryland/UVA.
I think the point around lacrosse and the Ivy League is that it is one of the only sports where you can truly compete for a National Championship from the League. So, it is actually a viable option for those who want to attend and can be a legit goal to do both. Obviously, there are plenty of great schools that play lacrosse and compete for Natty's, and plenty of kids who could go to an Ivy, but choose one of those other great schools (as mentioned above). It's all good. Options...I would think that is all any parent would want for their child...options...
