Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| So why are Asians considered privileged? Aren’t they immigrants, some don’t speak English well and came to this country with very little to no money? |
|
| I genuinely think that Democrats are being about as honest about wanting equity in schools as Republicans were about wanting freedom and democracy in Iraq. In either case, at some level there were people who believed that's what it was about and wanted to make it happen. And in either case, the messaging we get is Get With the Program, because it's the Right Thing to Do. |
As an Asian, I don’t consider my family privileged like they say we are. My family were brought from india to South America as indentured laborers by the British. The laborers traveled on ships from india to South America packed like sardines and identity taken away. Women were raped, it was like slavery. My ancestors had to work on sugar cane farmland for nothing. Yes it was wrong but those things made us stronger. We knew the only way to be better is to work hard and save money. My parents came to the USA with nothing but a useless HS diploma that wasn’t recognized here. They both work in retail, we had no money for vacay, tutors, or camps. We went to the public library every weekend and made use of the free resources. My parents brainwashed us from a young age, the only way to get ahead in life is to go to college. We weren’t A students, we didn’t speak well and read below grade level when we came to this country when I was 10 yrs old. We took loans and went off to a average college and trade schools. Guess what, now I am considered privileged because of our hard hard and work ethics. Yes we are middle class now, bought our American dream house. Nothing was handed to us, so I don’t understand why we are labeled privileged. |
| As a non White person I don’t agree with teaching CRT in schools. Yes we should continue to teach kids to respect each other culture and race. We’re all humans! I think liberals are getting out of control with this CRT and social justice. A lot of it is stupid and creates a more divided country. |
So, you still trust the election system?
|
I suspect you are Guyanese or Caribbean. Why don't you claim Hispanic of Black categorization? While you may be Asian by ethnicity, you are for all practical purposes no different from others coming from your country who likely claim the benefit of being Black or Hispanic. I would if I could. |
Because the "visible" Asians (a large number of Chinese, Koreans, and Indians) do very well and their family incomes are more than that of Whites. The "right" kind of colored people don't want to include these Asians on their side since it spoils their narrative of "we are downtrodden because you the "massa's" shoe", systemic disadvantage, etc. |
A lot of Asians come to this country with little or no money but study and work hard to get where they are. If America or its system was racist Asians wouldn’t do well either. |
Good point. Hard work pays off. |
Especially in a capitalistic system. |
| I have been wondering about the Asian refugees from places like Vietnam particularly and why they shouldn’t be considered for special treatment as not privileged. |
LOL if you think that’s what the US has today. |
Yes and the refugees from Syria and other places. Are they now privileged? It’s so stupid!!! Anyways CRT shouldn’t be thought in schools.... |
Oops taught 😆 |
