The Ringer article also stated the morale has been down among employees since his takeover as EP. That and given how many former Champs hated him, I'm guessing the behind the scenes was bad.

He was dismissed from those lawsuits. Find your #MeToo pound of flesh elsewhere.

NP here. Pound of flesh? The guy dated the models from the Price is Right and insisted they wear skimpier bathing suits. He was the boss. I don’t care about Me too or whatever. I care that this beefcake is gross and I don’t want to watch him on my escape TV show.

Beefcake? Richards is a totally normal suburban dad/family guy. I know them. Sounds like you just are hell bent on someone else and grasping at straws here.

Of course you do, PR shill!

How cute—pp thinks there is just one of us.

I wish, where do I collect my money?! Have you scorched enough earth yet with your unhinged vendetta about a game show host?

I love the agony. Pour one out for Mike the Dick Richards facing disappointment after using his wife and kids as human shields against his own total lack of character.

Wow are you ok? So much emotion over a …….. game show.

Like wow. Maybe you can….hit a thread that interests you, ya loser.

Don’t blow a gasket granny!

Why are you so incredibly nasty and name-calling posters who love the show instead of the guy who rigged a job process, lied, played victim, apologized with the insincerity of a snake-oil salesman, and who the all-time winners of the game he wants to take over absolutely hate? Do you just love white guys who look like they were door guards during college sex assaults? It’s most definitely a choice.

If you don’t care about the topic, why are you commenting? Why are so many people who clearly don’t like the show and haven’t read The Ringer article defending this slime?

Because you people are so weird and worked up. It is its own form of entertainment. Far more interesting than jeopardy.

So you’re dumb, the game irritates you because it taps into that insecurity, and you’re pissy because a mediocre nothing guy was exposed for what he is.

Yet you keep responding, no new jeopardy news today? I don’t care about mike at all I am amused by morons like you. I wonder what jeopardies biggest fans are like. Its like a weird subculture i didn’t know existed.

NP. And yet…here you are, on a thread about a show you don’t watch and a host you don’t care about, posting your little heart out.

+ 1.

Not quite. You people think watching Jeopardy makes you smart, but really, not so much. I came here because I didn't realize that the Mike I knew was the Jeopardy guy, I never knew what he did for a living even though I knew the family so I was interested. And then it all blew up, but then I've stayed because you are all so weirdly hostile and aggressive over a game show. I'll stay as long as I like, thanks, as long as you're all so weird and amusing.

After reading the Ringer article I’m glad this guy is done. The machinations to select himself as host bothered me more than the moronic podcast quotes. That being said, why can’t they just rotate hosting duties amongst 2-3 people instead of setting up a ridiculous Ken v. LeVar battle?

Yes, he had a total conflict of interest and intentionally manipulated things to his benefit and to the detriment of others. He’s a slime ball.

One week is one day. Each week of episodes is filmed in a day. And then some of his episodes were preempted by the Olympics when they were supposed to air, so he was screwed coming and going. If we had to judge each host by just their first day/week he would not have stood out as bad - he was fine and could have been great given some time to find his feet.
Anonymous
There was also a question about whether Mike coached them. I thought Levar didn’t have his usual easy affect and seemed like he was over-articulating—now I wonder if mike kept telling him to articulate more or speak more slowly! It was a weird set up. It doesn’t seem like it should be so hard to find someone. Just hire Jane Lynch at this point.

The Ringer article makes him sound like a privileged ahole grifter.

In an episode released two months later, Triffon tells a story about giving a dollar to an unhoused woman. Part of the exchange that follows is below:

Richards: Oh my god. You’re perpetuating the circle. … If you gave away money that was given to you by the government, that’s the circle of no life.

Triffon: No, Mike, it was just a dollar.

Richards: That’s the sound of America going down the toilet.

Triffon: I thought that she needed it!

Richards: She didn’t even ask you for it.

Triffon: So she could get some coffee or some food!

Richards: Or some crack! Or some meth!

But Richards himself has recently received government assistance. According to Small Business Administration data made available by government watchdog group Accountable.US, a consultancy that was incorporated in 2018 and lists Richards as the CEO and sole shareholder received a federal Paycheck Protection Program loan for $127,906 in May 2020, as well as a COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan for $150,000 later that year. Richards did not respond to The Ringer’s request for comment about these loans.

It's weird to have people come out defending this total unknown guy. Part of me suspects there's a subset of people who jump to the defense of any underqualified white guy with a history of racist/misogynist comments because they self identify with them.

This article by the Hollywood Reporter is spot on!

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/mike-richards-jeopardy-hosting-debacle-critics-notebook-1235000610/

The one-day hosting tenure of Alex Trebek’s successor is going to be painted a lot of ways in the media (social and traditionally antisocial), most of them basically correct.

It will be seen as the needless elevation of a mediocre white man with limited credentials at the culmination of what felt like a public selection process, even though the public was misguided if we felt we’d ever been promised a say. It will be seen as a strangely nepotistic hire, in which the executive producers of Jeopardy! hired one of their own (leaving aside indications that producer Sony really had the final say). It will be seen as the latest instance of a high-profile job going to somebody who hadn’t faced thorough googling, much less actual due diligence.
