Oh you don't want to get into more detail. We've have to calculate the billion dollar energy crisis from Texas' whole state power shutoff AND the costs to upgrade their infrastructure statewide so it doesn't happen again.

why does he think TX should take the military, NASA and the oil? Oil producing states are all over, including CA.

Texas, like California, could easily be its own country. But there are plenty of reasons why they won't and shouldn't.

LOL How long would it take for the US government to overthrow the Texas Republic and install a friendly government...given that Texas has oil?

OUCH!!!

If TX took the military and NASA, they'd have to raise taxes to pay for it. They would also need to build a wall around the entire state to keep the real Americans out.

Go for it Texas!

No more federal aid for you, and no more representation in Washington DC. It's a win win for the rest of us.

Agree. Get Texas the F out of here. The smart people of Austin/Houston/Dallas can move wherever - we’ll subsidize and the cesspool can go rot.

Just to be traditional and keep 50 states, would could then grant statehood to DC.

Military and NASA belong to the US government. A defecting state couldn't just "take" it. Look what happened during the civil war.

This is why studying history is important.

Yes! This would be great.

I think Cruz underestimates how much the rest of us would like to see him go back to Texas.

Texas gets 35% of its state budget from the feds. Also think of all that federal research money leaving all the Texas universities.

That would be awesome to get all that money back. Plus shut down all those military bases costing us $$. And Cruz would need to stay in his republic of Texas and led it from there. So much winning.
