Texas, like California, could easily be its own country. But there are plenty of reasons why they won't and shouldn't.

LOL How long would it take for the US government to overthrow the Texas Republic and install a friendly government...given that Texas has oil?

We don't have to overthrow you. We'll just keep control of US territorial waters and your oil economy would collapse, no shots fired. While you're waiting, enjoy 17 weeks of Cowboys vs. Texans.

i hope that helps republicans see what aligning with extremists has gotten them.

maybe they'll think about texit during trump's senate trial.

From an academic standpoint this could be fun. What are the laws regarding secession? I honestly don’t know and was intrigued when people in California and other states were talking about this in 2016/17. Can it be done in a legal peaceful fashion? What’s the mechanism? Could a state hold a referendum and simply declare themselves sovereign? Let’s allow this to play out!

They'll have to pay for all the border security and pay us transshipment fees for all their oil. Plus we dont have to subsidize them anymore and we'll get compensated for federal buildings, land and facilities. Sounds like a win win. Sign me up.

A number of states filed petitions to secede after Obama won in 2012. Sadly for the rest of us, we didn’t let Florida and Alabama go when we had the chance.

Of course, Texas was one of the states. And then Austin promptly filed a petition to secede from the new country of Texas.

These states have been playing with sedition for more than 150 years. Nothing new here. Move along.

Let’s face it Texas would be at war with Oklahoma in about a week. Wyoming wants to join Texas if it happens. You think Texas would view Wyoming as an equal partner?

Let's just sell them to Mexico.

Texas’ economy is propped up as much by tech as oil these days. See how that works out when all the tech companies flee back to California from whence they came. And it would be fun to see how their solid agriculture industry does without federal subsidies.

Why oh why do these people think their muskets will take down the weaponry of the US military. Nuts

Didn’t the NRA just move there? Won’t it be illegal for them to make political contributions if Texas becomes its own country?

There is no Constitutional provision for a state to secede from the union.

This is for the best.

Randos have been saying this since the dawn of time. The only difference now is they are getting press and headlines which may rally others to their cause. If the media would ignore them as always and stop giving them attention seekers fuel, they would continue to make this noise around the campfire and then go to bed.

1 in 5 charged for the attack on the Capitol are/were servicemembers, so they have reason to believe the military won't oppose them, like the USCP stepped aside for the rioters. If it wasn't for the MPD, the rioters would have occupied the Capitol and more for a lot longer. I don't see Texas Rangers beating down bubba rioters like the MPD.
