Because from page 1 people who claim to be associated with the movement have endorsed the list.

The movement is black people who want police not to suffocate them and their allies. It’s made up of all types of people, and yes that includes some who want you to shut up. The thing is, you should want police not to suffocate black people even if some of them hurt your feelings.

Yes! I want the police to stop murdering black people! I'm willing to help push for that, too. So when I show up to participate, and I get told to shut up, stand back, don't start chants, wait for instructions, I'm like, wait. Am I helping to stop the murder of black people? Or am I just participating in some creepy live action role play? I thought you wanted me to help, but now it sounds like you do NOT want my help, no matter how much I want to end police brutality.

NP. Why are you so offended by the idea that you might not be the most important participant at a protest? The leaders of the protests know what they're doing, and if they need you to be quiet and listen to instructions, then that's how you can help. You sound like you're only interested in "helping" if you can be in charge.

Who’s an armchair racist here? Someone who says they aren’t going to “follow the direction of black people without question”? I’m not doing that for anyone unless they’re pointing a gun at me.

What wild shenanigans are you expecting to be asked to do?

There has been a lot of violence this week. Police violence. Protestor violence. There is also a global pandemic going on and social distancing guidelines in place. These are not absurd concerns.

It also doesn't say "listen to the official organizers.". It literally says any rando black person.

We're just responding to what was written. If people stopped defending it and just admitted it was overboard this thread would have died an early death.

Exactly. This sort of message is extremely alienating.

Oh my God white people. Black woman here. Come on! Even in these arguments you are centering everything on you!! Do you understand that in our workplaces and when we are out and about when white folks step into a space they can sometimes suck all of the air out of a room!!! We are not seen half the time - that is part of the reason this happened. You do all these mental gymnastics to create an argument to NOT support black people.

All we need you do to is just LISTEN! Stop making this about you and your feelings. If you don't want to be an ally on the streets stay home. There is plenty you can do FROM HOME support a black business, send money to an HBCU speak up when biases are at play in your office, if you are in a position of power review the salaries of people you are responsible for on your job by race/gender. Are there any inequities there? Why is that?

This movement will continue. There are plenty of white people that truly, truly get it. Just try LISTENING for a change.

Maybe you also need to listen to people who have worked inside the movement for police brutality reform, who know that this list reflects real bullying that is going on.

I know plenty of people directly involved in this movement. All I see here is a bunch of drivel about hurt feelings. You aren't committed then if you can't take a bit of straight talk. WTF do you think Black folks have been dealing with here. It's life or death, not a bunch of harsh talk.

Bye!!

So how would you feel if you showed up at a general rally for something and a white person gave you this list? How would you react? What if white person said if you don't follow these rules than you aren't committed and that you should stay home?

DP Don't be dense. These are not comparable situations. One is a protest against systematic racism and police violence against persons of color and the other "a general rally for something". A better comparison is if you are a man showing up at a woman's march and a woman gives you a list of similar rules. If you'd get butthurt about it, then, yes, you should stay home.

I am not butthurt as you so elegantly put it. The reason I did not give a direct comparison is because I didnt want someone to say that's apples to oranges.

Look, I get it is driven by African Americans but if you want change you want to welcome everyone. Your example isnt great because black lives matter includes men and women. The women's march is for women. All women. We saw men at the march and I welcome them. I'm not saying whites should take over. Just make some room for those who want to support the causre

If you dont want change keep doing what you are doing. Although with covid 19 it will be a miracle if you survive until November to vote the orange man out.

No it’s not. This is a real post that has circulated.

Black people are in the spotlight now, but systemic racism goes beyond black. BLM is only part of a solution. Black, Brown, Yellow, Red, White, any another color need to begin talking with each other to build something new.

I find the list unhelpful primarily because it assumes only blacks and whites are protesting, and it perpetuates segregation.

Then the original is a troll Facebook post, too. It's just baiting people, clearly.

I’m guessing they meant the “discussion” here. It’s a troll fueled fragilityfest.

If anything due to my son's height and weight his black friend(plus serious naivete!) his taller black friends are more likely to protect him. Heck, that goes for his black friend who is shorter than DS! The shorter, skinnier kids are protected by their taller more muscular friends regardless of the color of their skin.
Join all tomorrow for a country wide protest!

Why don't you search for this language on FB. You'll find hits in racial justice groups, assuming you belong to them.

Yeah, I searched for it after seeing it here. It’s real. [/quote

I searched for it too. It's not. It's a bunch of white people doing this as some sort of "art". I guess it's intended as wry humor. But the results of their efforts seriously suck. I hope they realize this and delete it -- or add some sort of explanatory note or something to it since it's circulating. I believe someone posted this link earlier.

House rules. No issue here.

Question: has anyone been to a protest where these “rules” are being followed or enforced?

Watched the video of BLM guy telling a white girl to get on her knees. She readily got down on her knees and apologized for her white privilege.
Cool.

The viral video you are discussing was not a BLM guy and was posted by a prankster. This is disinformation.
