Bethesda Soccer Plans

Is it worth it to try and come to tryouts in June if they have them? Sounds like everything is set with the current player pool and the targeted outsiders already!

KL likely left Rush for the same reason that a club like Pipeline joined ECNL. You can be the best developer in youth soccer but if your kids aren't playing on the best platform, they will not get seen by DI coaches. The situation was different 6+ years ago when KL and his co-coach won a national title with MSI/Rush. There were girls on that team who played for top DI programs. KL had strong 05 and 06 teams at Rush but realized that even those teams consistently beat the hell out of Bethesda on the soccer field, Bethesda's player would fare better in the recruiting process because of the ECNL affiliation. KL made the right move and took his teams to Bethesda. Bethesda was smart in recognizing that it needed new blood and brought KL on board.

'

yeah, he made the right move. Rush couldnt get ECNL affiliation and those girls would want to be on ECNL or DA team eventually.
Bringing over that whole team is to stick it to rush though. And alex is leaving the 06 team.
KL own choice to leave the club for BSC but not his choice to not finish out last years season with the team.

You sure he didn’t leave for more money? BSC is known to throw money at coaches that has a good team so they would follow the coach to BSC.

Our manager said tryouts were for new players only.

The point is, are they going to the take any new players or not? The rosters sound set in stone.

They will always take a new player (money/income). There are multiple teams and levels for each year so an excellent kid will make the A team- average kid will make the C team, etc. If you have an excellent kid, there will be room to add them to the A team if that's what you're asking. I don't think they will max out each roster with old players at this time. Even if they moved someone up later to fill a slot. The ultimate goal is always an amazing team.

It’s set. So your kid would have to be extremely good or extremely fast..lol

It was only a few years old then. He had a team that sent players to top DI programs. Top teams are not sending multiple players to top DI programs if they are not in ECNL. Case in point, Mclean's U18/19 team has 25+ girls on its roster and 20+ are going DI including 20 going to competitive conferences including ACC, SEC, Big 10, WCC, Ivy League, etc. Rush dominated the local youth scene at 05 and 06 but they were not going to attract attention because the top teams are not going to JefCup or USYS NL showcases as they did six years ago.

The bigger issue for KL was probably the business model. He wasn't going to succeed in elite soccer without the ECNL platform.

I can confirm a lot on this thread.

Invites go out today, yes.

Rosters are already set for most girls ECNL teams. Previous poster is correct about tryouts, unless you are extremely talented or athletic, there will not be open tryouts for ECNL I teams. 2007 Girls seem to be the weakest year. Also a new head coach in Trey for that age group. That year perhaps has spots open.

Both Kevin and Dave Greene do not believe in equal playing time. Both also like to keep small rosters.

All new roster spots for promising players will be for ECNL II teams if available. In other words, ECNL II teams will likely have the large roster size.

I know nothing about the boys side.

If you accept offer do you have to agree to pay now for a year of soccer even though it may never happen?
