To his/her credit OP came back to admit as much. |
The red states have begin to catch up, but this remains overwhelmingly a blue state bug. As of July 12, the States with the most deaths per 1,000,000 population are 1. New Jersey 1,757 2. New York 1,666 3. Connecticut 1,220 4. Massachusetts 1,208 5. Rhode Island 921 6.Washington DC 805 The five states with the lowest death rate per capita are West Virginia, Wyoming, Montana, Alaska, and Hawaii. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ |
Florida is definitely leaning toward Biden, but not because of demographic changes. More old white people move to Florida than any other group. |
Anyone remember when the conservative mantra was "old people just need to hole up and shut themselves off so the rest of us can get back to their real living?" Yeah, old folks aren't going to like that. Also - I'm OP and I'm a he. |
Unless the red states are getting some sort of magic COVID that doesn't lead to deaths, they'll catch up quite well. I cautioned against blue state hubris in my OP and now it seems you're full of red state hubris. (And AZ and FL were, last I checked, full of old people.) |
+1 A big part of why Biden’s lead is so big is that Trump is running behind him with seniors now. |

wow. just wow. |
https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/12/politics/ron-desantis-florida-new-york-coroanvirus-remdesivir/index.html
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis publicly downplayed New York's role in providing his state with shipments of an antiviral drug to help combat the coronavirus pandemic after a staffer in The Sunshine State's health department had privately praised the assistance, CNN has learned. Speaking to reporters last Thursday, DeSantis pointedly denied that New York was helping his state's Covid-19 response, stating, "They're not helping us." "I think that someone reached out to our office about ventilators -- we got 6,000 just sitting idle, so we don't need it," the governor added. "We are working with the federal government on some of the Remdesivir." But a set of emails first reported by Politco and later reviewed by CNN shows New York's offer to send remdesivir to Florida had been well received before DeSantis dismissed the state's role in securing shipments of the drug. |
Right? They had to add the new “bruised red” color. |
What a POS. |
![]() Also, RE: that map ^^ For the most part, the states that were hardest hit earlier on will recover faster. The states hit hard *now* will continue to see their deaths go up. It really is a shame that so many states didn't learn from the mistakes as well as the solution (masks/social distancing) from the states that were hit early on. |
That’s the real thumb in the eye, isn’t it? New York was flying blind in a lot of senses. Texas, Florida, etc. all had a path laid out for them but they felt they were too good for it, that it wouldn’t happen to them. Or maybe they just want to shrink their population cruelly? I don’t know. |
