I think there was pretty broad suggestion that excess deaths exceeded what the official covid total was and I would assume that a slight but continued uptick in deaths in red counties has continued. That was the rub about a novel virus: even a mild bout could cause damage that would take some time to unfold, cardiac deaths, stroke, etc.

Sometime during covid I remember a tweet that talked about how polio, for most kids, was, at worst, a short diarrheal infection, that what we think of as “polio” was actually post-polio problems and that covid might turn out to be the same. Different sequelae, same idea.

And I continue to marvel at how the GOP, even knowing that they’ve killed off so many of their own voters, refuse to course correct.
