VA: First COVID-19 Case Confirmed

Anonymous
Are they just testing hospitalized patients? I feel like it’s very underreported and VA has not been as forthcoming with info.

The Georgetown one is an exception and that was only tested because of the connection with that case.

The Georgetown rector had no travel, how was he able to get tested?

No you aren't. It is not conceivable that we've only gone up by 1 since yesterday. If Virginia's only had capacity to test 200-300 people a day they haven't been testing nearly enough. There are more out there. I'm not relying on # of confirmed cases

Per day? It sounds like the state of Virginia only has 300-400 test kits total right now.

Yeah, how did he get it in the first place?

Must be that he came in to close contacts with people who returned from Italy and with symptoms?

He went to an Episcopal conference in Kentucky - at least 2 other people who went also have the virus.

As we saw in South Korea, cults spread the disease.

Rudy Gobert didn’t travel overseas either but was tested.

They are only testing people who traveled oversees or came into close contact with them? I don’t think they are even testing the later.

It's not containable. China did a study on a bus to figure out how someone caught the disease. A contagious person rode a bus, got off, and half an hour later a person without the disease caught it from the air that was on the bus. If someone has it and doesn't know it, they'll spread it to a lot of people.

Research labs all over NY state are now performing testing. WTH is wrong with our f-ed up state? It's not like we don't have places with the capacity around here. We aren't in a biotech vacuum.

Possibly may be the same person, a Virginia resident who is a firefighter in MoCo, somehow connected to Christ Church.

from MDOH

The administration has also been informed that a volunteer first responder in Montgomery County, a Virginia resident, has tested positive for COVID-19. This case is tied to the rector of Christ Church in Washington, DC, so the State of Maryland is coordinating this investigation with the Virginia and Washington, DC health departments. Maryland’s chief epidemiologist has cleared the firehouse where the first responder works and has no major concerns regarding potential exposure risk to the community.
