Agree. |
+1 PE is an outdated concept. |
Yeah, but this is the exact thinking that these perps had from their parents. Karma is for adults, not children. The school should have handled things properly from the BEGINNING. Parents should not have to go to the news to get justice. Most victims do not want to be tried again by going to the police, and FCPS banks on this. The parents had no choice - FCPS backed itself into a corner, and this is what happens. FCPS is probably going to be sued over this, and I think they know it. These perps knew that PE time (or lunch time, or in between classes - as I have seen) was a free for all. FCPS really needs to step it up and stop only caring about protecting themselves, because it is glaringly obvious. |
+1 I hope this changes how FCPS fails to handle matters - the victim blaming is out of control. |
Well said. |
| My child's middle school (not FCPS) has TWO teachers in the locker room with students. |
|
FACTS: from a relative of the victim:
Fact: The incident occurred during 8th Period PE in the locker room, the afternoon of Thursday, January 23, 2020. Fact: The school administration and Fairfax County Police Department became aware of the attacks the morning of Friday, January 24, 2020. Fact: Parents were notified of the attacks at 3:54 PM via email on Wednesday January 29, 2020, six minutes before the story broke on NBC4. |
So proud of those parents for getting the news involved! That was a tough choice, and I am thankful that they did it. Their child was a victim. Vienna and Oakton families and kids have rallied behind him. Hugs to the family and boy. |
Thank you, PP. Do you know who contacted the police? School or parents? |
None of this means FCPS didn’t start investigating before the 29th. |
This is wholly unacceptable and infuriating if true. This was a violent assault that should have been reported to the police immediately. Shame on FCPS if it wasn’t reported to the police right away. Shame on FCPS for waiting until the knew they were going to be outed by the news before informing parents. These kids should be arrested. I saw one FCPS representative interviewed by the news say that the victim was “ok”. Perhaps the victim is physically ok, but there is no way he is psychologically ok — I wouldn’t be ok if I was attacked in the workplace the way the victim was at school. Imagine if you went to the bathroom at work and were attacked with a dangerous by 3-4 of your colleagues, and then held hostage in the bathroom while tortured by the same colleagues with that weapon, all while other colleagues are laughing and videotaping the incident. What would you do? If you could, you would beat the #*$& out of your colleagues the minute you could, but most likely you would call the police. If FCPS didn’t call the police as soon as they understood that a stun gun was used on a student, they failed miserably. |
The prior post literally says the police were notified on the morning of January 24th. You ought to read before posting even more of your hyperbolic rants. |

This is so scary!! My kids are in elementary but I’m terrified of sending them to high school! We’re in the Chantilly HS zone.
Are private schools any better or do they have bullying and drug dealing too? |
| Is this story also being covered by the Washington Post? If not, it should be. As a community member, I don't want this to go the road of the band assault path. This is a county wide issue and FCPS should be held accountable for their negligence in keeping students safe on their watch. |
