Young House Love - wtf is going on with Sherry?

Anonymous
The current house is too small for the way they live. If Sherry would stop putting dorm size living room pieces in the kitchen, and move the kitchen table into that area (instead of blocking the fridge), the house would flow better. But I do think the locations agrees with them.

Sherry used to be BFF’s with Katie Bower of Bower Power. I want to know what happened with that friendship. There must have been some sort of falling out. They used to travel to visit each other, always were referring to each other, etc. and that abruptly stopped a few years ago. I would love to know the scoop on that situation!

I have never understood the hate for Sherry. She may not be everyone's cup of tea but who is? I've gained a lot from reading their recommendations over the years (and have bought a few misses too) but on the whole, it's been pretty beneficial. Every time I have messaged her asking for help on something she's recommended or that I can't remember, she's always replied within a few hours. And never with an affiliate link.

I cannot stand her pedantic defensiveness. With EVERYTHING. The other day they were walking in a swamp and someone said something about watching out for gators. Sherry said they’ve never seen one the whole time they’ve lived there (since last summer) and then felt the need to post multiple stories about how gators aren’t really all over Florida, and if you see one they’re not even harmful, and they will never see one because gators don’t actually exist in Florida. SHUT UP.

She just has the incessant need to always have the last word, or be right. Someone will say “have you considered not having a tiny homegoods loveseat in your entryway” and she will do 600 stories about how they all love it, they fight over who gets to sit in it, it’s the best seat in their house, look at this account where someone else also has it and likes it, see, it’s really good and should be there.

this is exactly why I unfollowed her! That and the billion swipe up affiliate links per day. I also think her “30 seconds of zen” videos are annoying. Anyways, I unfollowed her and don’t have to see them anymore so no need to tell me to unfollow!

As for the privacy thing... I think the entire blogging thing was a Pandora's box for a lot of bloggers. I understand what they are trying to do, it's just very late in the game.

If you can't figure out where it goes, and they are asking for privacy, I don't think it would be right to tell you. I don't think there are doors on both sides, but if you look through first floor pictures of the side they don't show regularly, you should be able to figure it out pretty easily.

So lucky to have unloaded those beach houses when they did. Even if they just broke even, they didn't have to carry them through the pandemic.

Posting to an IG gets little interaction. Apparently, posting to stories improves the algorithm from what I heard from other IG people I follow.

It’s not just that. Sherry really struggles with criticism (I think she’s admitted it herself) and people would give tons of feedback, tips, and critiques on the posts- sometimes nice, sometimes not. She used to respond to every comment on their blog. By not posting she doesn’t have to deal with the public comments and criticism.

Also, most importantly, they can still shill by linking all their IKEA and Target crap in their stories. Win win! I wonder how much cash they bring in off those swipe ups. I think it is so disappointing how, with their huge platform and focus on design and decor, they don’t hardly ever promote small shops or antiques or individual stores. Everything is IKEA and target. It is ridiculous

She must have read this because her stories last night linked to her list of small black-owned shops, LOL

Sherry is manic as hell and is never wrong. But for some reason she is way more palatable to me than "Hollier than Thou Julia Marcum" of ChrisLovesJulia (puke typing that name). She is one stone cold pretentious beyotch who ruined the McMansion they curently live in so is now packing up the family and her sisters and staff and moving again. Due to health reasons (which i know she has, but instead of stopping the botox and fillers to see if that helps she would rather move)

I don't care for Sherry but I do like her a lot better than Katie Bower and Julia Marcum.

Pretty sure it has something to do with this:

“Katie Bower has deleted this Instagram post, in which she laments that her 6-year-old son has never been popular in her social media posts. “

Soon following, they really distanced from them.

I've always liked them and still do. I have followed them since the very beginning. I wish they would come and redo my house.

I never looked at the blog before this thread. I really sort of love that little beach house. But it doesn't look like a place where you could really LIVE for any period of time. Like the chairs all look uncomfortable, and it's hard to imagine napping on the couch.

I do sort of appreciate that her husband is staring at his phone in all the shots of him anyway. That seems pretty cinema verite.

I'm not sure that was it. I think she finally realized that being friends with a racist, homophobic, idiot who deliberately posts her most incendiary thoughts over an over isn't good for your brand.

I can't hate Sherry. I easily find everything from mild annoyance to outright anger with the entire spectrum of design/DIY bloggers that resides completely separately from my opinion of their actual work. I don't even care for most of the Petersik's decor but I like them. I don't know why. I can't stand Katie Bower.

I liked the way they did their Richmond house, but this house seems like a step backward in terms of furnishing and decorating. In trying to go "beachy", they've gone back to the same look they had in their 20s when they moved into their tiny little Richmond house and could only afford Target and IKEA. They should have evolved into higher end, instead of moving backwards.
