RM Cluster Overcrowding?

MCPS has been undercounting for years in most clusters, not just RM. Please talk to your school Cluster Coordinators and AVP, so you are not duplicating work they've already been doing.

High schools in the mid-county region will continue to be over capacity through the six-year planning period. Therefore, the Board of Education's requested FY 2019-2024 CIP included funding for a new high school in the mid-county region located on the Crown site in the City of Gaithersburg. An FY 2019 appropriation was requested to begin planning this new high school. Due to fiscal constraints, the County Council approved a one-year delay for this project. An FY 2020 appropriation will be requested for planning funds. Once the planning is complete, a recommendation will be included in the next full CIP regarding the phasing and completion date for the opening of this new high school.

Crown has already been delayed due to fiscal constraints.

Yes. Planning will now be funded for the year that starts in July 2019 (FY 2020).

Does anyone posting in this thread telling us what to do not live in the city limits of Rockville? I have a feeling a lot. Most people in this message board posting about Rockville don’t like it and would never live there.

14:13, do you really believe that funding will actually occur in FY 2020? Maybe I'm jaded. I was a strong advocate for Bayard Rustin several years ago. MCPS found ways and reasons to delay it for 3 years. I will only believe that Crown will happen when I see the construction equipment at Crown. And even then, we still have no idea who'll be attending.

That's the only way make sure that collective well being of citizens are more important. There is reason that City used to have moratorium at 110% and then in 2015 city council voted to make it 120%. Now they want to increase it even more. Disgusting leaders who don't care about child education at all.

Tell them the cluster cannot support this increase. The way I read the article from Montgomery Sentinel, it is all levels (ES, MS, and HS) in the cluster.

There is a work session Monday night (12/17) to discuss. There will be a community forum. You can speak at the forum. It sounds like the vote will be 1/7 (the day before Julie Palakovich Carr resigns). Palakovich-Carr will definitely vote with Pierzchala. Newton & Feinberg oppose. Onley will be the deciding vote.

So, if you oppose, speak up and speak up soon. This is getting rammed through at the holidays when no one is paying attention.

Golden words. I will also add remember the names who don't care about kids education and vote accordingly in next election.

Neither are those future buildings you oppose, so by this logic, it makes no sense to oppose them.

Crown won't be there even after 10 years. That's based on MCPS past record. It make no sense to compare with developers putting some condos. Anyway, Crown is irrelevant to this discussion. RM is over crowded right now and moratorium rule is there to make sure that poor situation doesn't get worse.

Based on the way people on this forum talk bad about Rockville, I doubt many people posting here live in Rockville. I think they should make people show ID and prove they are residents of the actual CITY of Rockville before allowing them to talk about how building is bad.

Did you even watch the council meeting? The vote has to be soon so that the moratorium doesn’t go into effect next year. Or do you want the town center to fail?

If Town Center has to suffer so that our school is not at 150% capacity, so be it. The market will dictate the success of Town Center.
