| Given that the perpetrator is out there I'm not sure if go "about my business" as normal. It also makes me sad to rationalize this violence. Most people are harmed by someone they know. Drive by shootings that hit unintended targets and random passer by knifings are something the whole city is /can be horrified by . It's right and normal to be scared, and to demand a strategy to address the threat. Addressing the violent mentally ill homeless population or CCTV or (in the case of drive bys) our lame youth adjudication system in DC is all something we can demand our politicians take a look at. Please do not downplay at least addressing her awful awful death in some proactive way besides handwriting or dismissiveness. |
| Sorry "handwringing" |

One has to be cautious at all times.
Many of the loitering street people are mentally unstable and can attack without warning. They are not necessarily bad people they just have mental problems. |
| Any of the hundreds of vagrant individuals wandering the streets of DC at any given hour are capable of attacking you with a knife at any moment. |

Dailymail has a video of the victim running into the Chinese restaurant seeking help and falling to the ground. A white couple with backpacks back off and run out.
This pretty much contradicts the prince of pet worth story posted upthread. |
the video is very shocking. That poor woman. At least some strangers helped her. I wonder if I was in that Chinese restaurant if I would have run off or stayed to help? |
I saw the the video. What cowards - the guy was clearly encouraging his girlfriend like: "come on, let's go!" In early news reports, the bloodied victim was not blurred out. It was so sad to see her standing there covered in blood, but still walking and alive - and knowing she died. Those people who left her should be ashamed of themselves. |
regarding B), I don't know if I would classify this as a 'safe area' anymore. |
What difference would that have made? She still would've died. The wound she had was obviously unsurvivable, whether she was alone, or had all the resources of a level one trauma team inside a hospital ER. If your abdominal aorta is severed, you're going to die. Period. Nothing is going to stop that. I'll bet you $$$ you'd run away from someone covered in blood running up to you, too. That's the default reaction of people - to get the hell away from whatever caused that injury to that other person. Staying and helping is actually overcoming and suppressing a natural instinct to flee. If you haven't been trained to do that, odds are you'd run away, too, big talker. |

It’s possible that couple thought there was an active shooter or something. They also probably were terrified. Not everyone is brave.
I’m so sorry for this woman and her family, so terribly sad. |
| Just heard that a suspect has been arrested. |
|
Suspect apprehended?
But there are still hundreds of other mentally unstable people all over the city. |
Where did you "hear" this? I just googled the case and nothing came up. |
Just saw that two people rushed in to help; thankful there are people like that. |
