Senate Democrats sending secret letter about Kavanaugh to FBI

Anonymous
Ronan Farrow and Jane Mayer have the story:

The woman, who has asked not to be identified, first approached Democratic lawmakers in July, shortly after Trump nominated Kavanaugh. The allegation dates back to the early nineteen-eighties, when Kavanaugh was a high-school student at Georgetown Preparatory School, in Bethesda, Maryland, and the woman attended a nearby high school. In the letter, the woman alleged that, during an encounter at a party, Kavanaugh held her down, and that he attempted to force himself on her. She claimed in the letter that Kavanaugh and a classmate of his, both of whom had been drinking, turned up music that was playing in the room to conceal the sound of her protests, and that Kavanaugh covered her mouth with his hand. She was able to free herself. Although the alleged incident took place decades ago and the three individuals involved were minors, the woman said that the memory had been a source of ongoing distress for her, and that she had sought psychological treatment as a result.

In a statement, Kavanaugh said, “I categorically and unequivocally deny this allegation. I did not do this back in high school or at any time.”

Kavanaugh’s classmate said of the woman’s allegation, “I have no recollection of that.”

The woman declined a request for an interview.

This whole episode has really made the Democrats appear even more desperate than they already appeared.

DP. i read this on several sites--I think one was WAPO.
FBI does not have jurisdiction on this. It would be a local matter--at least, I guess it would be if we knew where, when, and what happened. The only thing I've read was pretty juvenile and certainly does not rise to an investigation of any type. Desperation and embarrassing on the part of Feinstein.

Also embarrassing for the woman who allowed herself, albeit anonymously, to be convinced to be used as a pawn in such a ridiculous way.

We don't know what she means when she said she was locked in a room by a bunch of high school guys. As a woman, my first thought is it means they locked her in the room with them, and she felt they intended to rape her - and luckily managed to escape. I don't have those details of course but it's hard for me to imagine that if it was just a silly prank like pps are suggesting that she'd send a litter to her elected representatives about it.

If this were to happen today, there would be nothing to press charges on, regardless of what the "victim" perceived to be the intent.

Why are we treating right wing theories as to what was in the letter as fact? Let it play out, people.

Wrong.

The Roy Moore Accusers had corroburating witnesses and other evidence. Please name a credible accuser who had no accompanying information.

The Al Franken accusation was idiotic. He shouldn't have resigned, but his own party turned on him because it was an opportunity to virtue signal.

Exactly. The only people I know who insisted Franken should resign were Democrats. As another PP said, they're their own worst enemies.

Perhaps you should go back and read the press from that time. Many prominent Republican politicians said he should resign.

We don't have to press charges, but lets not reward bad behavior with a seat on the Supreme Court bench. There are plenty of judges who haven't forced themselves on anyone, why not choose one of them instead?

So Kavanaugh is a youth girls basketball coach.

Uh, I wouldn't want my daughter within 50 feet of him, thank you.

Attempted sexual assault is the allegation.

It is now. Welcome to Trump's America. Make sure you get a bullet proof vest for your kindergartener before they sell out.

Not buying it at all.

We have the Democrats, who, before the nominee was even named, vowed to do everything they could to stop this nomination.
Chuck Schumer said they would fight it “by all means necessary.”

They protested at the hearings and interrupted with screaming voices, hateful signs and “bloody crotches.”
Cory Booker had his “Spartacus” moment and released supposedly Committee Confidential documents (that weren’t) which turned out to do more to support Kavanaugh than to slander him.
Kamala Harris tried to cryptically make implications that fell flat.
Liberals have tried to say he committed perjury, even though many liberals sites and legal experts have contradicted that.
Liberals have attempted to slander him with a “gambling addiction” with absolutely no evidence of such.
Democrats on the committee tried to intimidate him with thousands of follow up questions - more than any of the past nominees combined.
And, now, at the eleventh hour, an anonymous woman comes forward with a questionable claim. The “letter” has been in the possession of the Democrats since July. Feinstein met with Kavanaugh, questioned him in committee, and this never came up.

So, when all else fails, they are claiming a #MeToo episode.

You have overplayed your hand, liberals. We aren’t falling for your games.

I guess your standard is “can you find an anonymous person to make an accusation at the eleventh hour with zero evidence about something that allegedly occurred in the 1980s.” He tried to kiss me in 1985! The horror!

Not only do you think it’s okay to spread rumors that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted someone in high school but now you want to spread rumors that it’s standard behavior for boys at like Landon and Prep to sexually assault girls. Good grief, you are sick. And no, I’m not associated with either of those schools in any way. And I’m a moderate registered Democrat who feels like she’s lost her party.

It’s sad, really. Some people are acting out of desperation to a point where they will accuse anyone of anything... doesn’t matter if it’s true.
Truly pathetic.

As made clear by the denial letter just released, the republicans have been aware of this for weeks and planning a rebuttal. Sorry to ruin your lame narrative.
