No, that's not how the MPDUs work. You can't fight to keep MPDUs out of your neighborhood. You can fight to keep new residential development out of your neighborhood, which people have indeed done in Bethesda and Potomac, but also in other parts of the county. You can also fight to keep workforce housing or low-income housing out of your neighborhood, but that's not MPDUs -- and again, people have done this in other parts of the county as well (most recently Damascus, for example).

Yes. Actually you can keep MPDUs out of your neighborhood and W people did it for years (all through the 90's). Then other areas showed a lopsided effect of more MPDUs east and north. Damascus and White Oak for example did not try to keep them out, they just asked for them to be equally distributed.

This is exactly why the schools in that part of the county need to be actively desegregated.

I feel for the Principal, no matter what he does he cant win. But the real issue here isn't kids being kids in school saying stupid stuff cause they are kids. The real problem us the parents who all hate each other for no damn good reason.

Sorry, this upsets you; however, students would likely refrain from using ugly racial slurs if their school wasn't segregated.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but the property-driven neighborhood school system is a worldwide practice. And no one calls it segregation.
So unless you start tearing down cities for your social experiment that won't change. And costly bussing kids around like chapter 220 did for 15+ years didn't do a thing for black teen tests scores, pregnancies rates, Hs grad rates nor college acceptance rates.

The rest of the county is not segregated thanks to MPDU's which the W's families have fought hard to keep out of their neighborhoods.

Im a minority and I fought hard to live in a W school zone. We worked hard and saved so our kids could grow up in a neighborhood with shared values of hard work and demanding education. No one in our W school tried to stop us, in fact we have been most warmly welcomed. So I think you are falling on stereotypes to form your opinions and not reality.

You live in an MPDU? And you bought it back in the 90's?

No, worked hard, got martied, we bought a starter house, continued to work hard, saved money had kids, sold old house invested profit in new W cluster house (at market value) and we havent looked back.

So. Congrats. Same with a ton of other people. Do you want a cookie. I am talking about poor minorities, who are treated like dirt in the W district.

And for many minorities who worked even harder than you and could afford private, they are at private schools due to being "lumped" with the rest of the minorities.

How?

increase income, property and sales taxes.
build bigger schools, more classrooms.
buy up houses.
move in 15 person Latino families and black families.
provide free counseling, healthcare, transportation and ESOL to poor families.
provide free before and after care to poor families and students' children.
do not offer tracking or skills-based differentiation in the classroom (remember, NO segregation, must sink to lowest denominator).
test scores plummet, crime rates increase, property values fall, people move out.

VIOLA! Socialism and desegregation.
Or as Tom Wolfe would say, Dispersity in practice, Diversity in theory. Mediocrity across the board.

Thanks, Harrison Bergeron. No, that's not socialism, and it doesn't involve violas either.

Possibly an improvement - Whitman is a rated a 4 on GS and apparently, many students are racists.

But wouldn’t silver spring object to somewhere else cutting into it’s action?

Active desegregation??

My family barely escaped with their lives from places that engage in such activities. Recommend you dont try it here.

I dont want your cookie I want you and you stereotypes and your racism and stupidity to leave us the $&@" alone. Let people live their damn lives and make their own choices. You and your 'we gotta do something to help those poor minorites cause they just cant do it on their own.' YES WE CAN.

I am dying to know what part of the world actively desegregated racial minority communities and thereby put your family's lives at risk. All I can think of is post Apartheid South Africa. Even the white people yelling at the black kids desegregating Little Rock High School in the '50s didn't claim their LIVES were at risk.

First of all your entire premise is false, there is no 'segregation' here. What is segregation as it pertains to your concerns is government proscribed, coerced or condoned separation of people in the social spheres (work, residence, etc) based on social constructs of desirable and undesirable demographic traits be it race, creed, culture, class, religion, etc. That simply doesn't exist here and now. In fact the opposite exists.

Neologisms like 'economic segregation' is just marxist psychobabble. For example is the fact that I don't live in a 1 acre 3 car garaged 8500 square foot luxuriously appointed Palisade home but other people do... is that segregation? No but your fix of forced desegregation would throw someone out of that home and put me in. Hmm, maybe I like that idea. Nope, I don't because that is the exact activity that my grandparents escaped from in Hungary in the 1950s. Forcing people to live in accordance with your egalitarian dictates in the long run never helps and almost uniformly hurts. Variants from Serbia to Rwanda, Eastern Europe to the Hindu Kush have lead to the deaths of untold millions.

Look, regardless how well intentioned, face it, your social engineering redistribution gambits have uniformly failed and have ruined the lives of many, destroyed countless families, crushed the once thriving middle class dreams of entire cohorts of people while enriching a select few of demagogues, opportunists, corruptocrats, cronies and elitists. But the fix aint more of your social engineering 'forced desegregation'.

Anyway we have veered far off topic. How about the principal fertile if verbal assault occurred, and then identify and punish those guilty of doing it. And then moving on...that's the issue here. Take tow counts of presumed button proven verbal assault based on on race and then using that to justify demands 'forced desegregation' is exactly the overkill hinted at in this dialogue.

The zoning that keeps poor people out of wealthy areas is social engineering. It didn't just happen naturally or by accident. If you don't like social engineering, let's remove it. Then anybody can build anything on the land they own, and anybody can do anything with the buildings they own. So if your neighbor wants to start up a rooming house, your neighbor can. And if your other neighbor wants to build an apartment building, your other neighbor can. If you oppose social engineering, you should support this.
