N word at Whitman

Anonymous wrote:N has not been appropriate for decades! It has had a resurgence because (I don't even know what is appropriate to insert here) black kids call each other and their non black friends "N" as a term of endearment. It's used in rap, hip hop etc.

My grandparents, parents, DH, myself and my kid never, ever used this word.

It would be wonderful to know what people prefer to be called. Black seems universal. White is not an issue for whites. Some use brown when referring to themselves. Yet POC isn't universal though many blacks refer to themselves as POC. AA isnt universal if POCs are not African descendants . Yet no one wants to use the skin color wheel.

With all due respect and in no prioritized order:
Black
Brown
Asian
White
Mixed
And rainbow just for fun for all the unicorns out there? Please have a sense of humor

Please state your preference if these are not appropriate.

Please state why you’re deliberately ignoring the blackface?
The use of the N-word wasn’t the only thing racially insensitive.

What? I thought it was a mud mask and someone took a screen shot and added n word to it and posted it again to snapchat. Did the girls admit to adding derogatory word? If so, then punishment should fit the crime. Not excusing them at all. Stop being so myopic! This thread went down a different path.

No the girls wrote the caption according to the paper.

It's stuff like this thread that makes it clear we've failed these kids by not integrating the W's decades ago.

Sure, seems like integration would benefit the community and is long overdue.

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha - listen closely. It will never, ever, happen. Whitman and Churchill parents will NEVER allow MCPS to bus kids into their school or build "Blacks/Hispanics Only" housing in their neighborhoods. They are way too politically connected. You can complain about how we need to put more minorities into these schools but the only way to do that is to build wealth in those two minority groups. Luckily, the Black and Hispanic unemployment rates are at or approaching historic lows.

Then the county will continue to enhance the cohort criterias to offset the gerrymandering that has allowed these segregated schools to exist.

So you're boasting that W parents use powerful political clout to gerrymander their boundary in order to exclude low-income students?

We can sue the BOE to keep our boundaries intact if that's what it takes to keep out the unwashed masses.

Can't wait for the boundary study to be done and diversify these schools.

All the dominoes are lined up. The BOE voted to prioritize diversity. It's on!
