Humans behaving badly means zoo animals die

Another pro-choicer showing their true colors.

4 kids is not an insane amount of kids. And if they are all 4 handfuls you either know to bring someone along to help you supervise or you do not go. Period.

Every family should be allowed to have, say, 2 kids. Beyond that it requires some test of parenting skills.

Do you think the 4 year old is involved in some sort of gorilla conspiracy?

Both gorilla and kid were black, so sure there's some kind of police conspiracy involved.

Probably that's why they murdered the gorilla.

Gorillas, being non-human, cannot be "murdered".

If if this was a human, this would not have been murder - just sayin'

Sadly, some people, thinking themselves "reasonable", would take you seriously.

Scary that the mom is a preschool administrator. Wonder how much longer she will be employed??

It's the public that is driving zoos to have the charismatic megafauna.

A very tragic story! Hard to watch. Americans are stupid.

This is just a tragedy all the way around.

I find the video very disturbing. I think it's incredible the boy wasn't seriously injured. I just keep picturing it being my little 2 yr old and I can't imagine him being dragged about like that. It's honestly terrifying.

It is terrible that the gorilla had to die, it truly is. But it seems it was the only option, really. Hopefully the parents do feel the right amount of shame and remorse. And the kid (was he 3 or 4? Not that it makes much difference) honestly couldn't have known the danger he was putting himself in and that he was risking the gorilla's life. He's just a young kid. He made a stupid mistake, yes. And the parents should've been paying more attention, especially at a place like that and given he was joking about getting in the water.

It was a bad situation with a sad outcome.

I don't know why people are bringing race into this - race has nothing to do with it. There are moronic, idiotic, negligent parents of every race, ethnicity, religion, etc.

I'm the youngest of 4 children in my family. We took trips to amusement parks, zoos, concerts, crowded places, etc. Somehow none of us ended up in close quarters with zoo animals or in remotely such dangerous positions. Our parents kept a decent watch on us, but we were also taught consequences of our actions at all times. Going to the zoo is not a babysitter activity where you think you can go someplace and distract your kids - it's an occasion to learn and humble yourself in awe of nature. We knew "the look" from our parents and not to push the limits - and a 4 year old knows better.

This is 100% a parenting fail. The idiot parents will, unfortunately, probably try and sue the zoo.

"After Harambe's death, reproductive biologists from the zoo's Center for Conservation and Research of Endangered Wildlife collected viable sperm from the animal. The center's assisted reproductive programs include research with artificial insemination and frozen sperm."

Now if they could find some way to sterilize the mother...

Let me guess, you're "pro-choice".

As any intelligent, moral person would be.

This article really sums it up for me. Esp re: the condemnation of mom, very little mention of dad at all:

He may be the pawn in the parents scheme to make a big payday with a quick settlement from the zoo. "Mommy loves you"? Hell, I would have been doing my damnest to get in that moat to rescue him. At no time have the parents expressed any regret for the death of the gorilla or apologized. Time will tell if they sue and I'm sure atbleadt 5,000 lawyer (nationwide) have contacted them.

I'm 100% Team Gorilla but I think this scheme idea is bonkers. Of course it wasn't planned. Wtf?? It was weird that the mom was sort of calmly calling out "Mommy loves you!" but I wasn't there so don't know how else she was reacting.

Harambe seemed more intelligent than many humans I've met (at least on DCUM). A shame he was murdered.

You say that as if it were a bad thing.

If the dad were there, he'd equally be to blame.

But why is it so weird that she was yelling out "Mommy loves you"? Is there a script she should've been following? Wasn't she telling the boy to stay calm too? I feel like those are fairly rational things to say when you're probably panicking like you never have on the inside.
