Possible Rape at Sidwell?

Anonymous
They should be expelled if during the relationship they had sex at school.

The police report was filed so the authorities will handle the rape and should prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.

I believe something bad happened. However, it's entirely possible that this is not a case of rape or sexual assault of any kind. It will be a very long time before the facts are out - if they ever are. These children and their families have some privacy rights. If an assault did happen, it may be that the parents block information from going public. I know I would do everything I could to keep it out of the public arena if it were my daughter.

So the media is going to disclose the names of those involved, breaking every tenant of journalistic ethics that still remain? Beyond that, what is there to tell?

The school has communicated everything it needs to in this matter, that is presumably between two minors and the legal system.

How'd that approach work out for St. Paul's in New Hampshire?

I don't share your belief that Sidwell is now clear of an alleged on-campus rape of a student by another student just because the cops have been called. I'm also surprised by the weakness of Sidwell's initial statement. If they are smart, they will be hiring a crisis management firm today, who will counsel them to issue a statement that - while acknowledging the facts of the incident in questions are still far from clear - decries sexual violence, voices support for all victims of such attacks, and reiterates the School's commitment to providing a safe environment for all students.

I didn't know Sidwell was being tried for anything that it needed to be cleared of. They haven't covered anything up, they have probably opened whatever video and other forensics they might have available. Do tell.

Not saying they're being tried for anything. But I am saying they better have a plan to deal with this, other than refuse to make a statement to the press and hope it all goes away. Maybe they do, but they haven't shown it it yet.

it is important to note, consent is not implied just because they had a previous sexual relationship.
No consent = rape
I hope her identity is kept private and they all get proper counseling. Devastating for all indeed.

I must add here, sex in HS often has devastating consequences for all involved. It's a very sad thing.

I'm sorry you either had a bad experience in HS or didn't have an experience you wanted, but starting a sexual relationship with my boyfriend at 17 was a healthy and wonderful thing for me and I don't regret it for one second.

Just curious, where did you go to have sex? That's one of my major concerns with teens...it's so dangerous. Are they in the back of a car? A cheap hotel? On my furniture when I'm not home?

Bingo! Most have it at home when the parents are not there. The real danger is the lack of information these kids have about sex.

How about just the Where, When and Why?

The school released a statement yesterday.

Wait - so your position is that a young woman has been raped, and reported it, but if, in the course of the investigation it is determined that she broke another school rule, she should be expelled?

Holy shit.

I mean, I knew there were some crazy people out there (see Trump, Donald, and primary voters thereof), but it's rare that I interact, even online, with the soulless.

Please, try to bring a level of seriousness and compassion to your responses. There is no point making up hypothetical occurrences and then demanding punishment.

So, a rape victim should be expelled for previous behavior. That's a very helpful and caring response. You are 100% focused on the right parts of this story.

The male student is toast either way. If the conduct is shown to have been consensual, then he's still had sex on campus and he's gone (the female, too). If it's a rape, he's gone ... to prison.

I am curious, no one will discuss who. The media already reported when. Where? Someone on campus. Why? Seriously?

This has nothing to do with Sidwell. I saw an interesting TV program about rape on college campuses. Some institutions claim that there were no sexual crimes committed for an entire year in their official reports that they must file with authorities annually. And yet it is common knowledge that these crimes do occur. According to this program, it's about 1 or 2 students who are responsible for 99% of the attacks. Some colleges have chosen to hide these facts from the press and not expel the guilty students. It's just one more thing to check out before sending your kid off.

yep. I wondered if they got caught at school, both were threatened to be expelled then she claimed she was raped to save herself. You never know, it could be a million scenarios and at this point NOONE knows what happened. Innocent until proven guilty of rape, people.
