Why are white people all around the world not having kids?

Anonymous
The 'logistics' lady - you got it! Logistics that make or break your whole life. Once I had a kid, I realized that most people don't need to do this, they can help out their friends & family who are already parents. I told this in a very real way to one of my BFFs. It's very hard to have a kid in the DC-metro area with no family nearby. I wouldn't wish it on any childless couple.

We are DINKs but seriously thinking of pursuing opportunities in other countries that actually value children and parents.

I agree that this country needs to be more family friendly, but if everyone in this country thought the same as you we'd have no births. We'd have to rely 100% on immigrants to support us in our old age, and we all know how popular that is. You're lucky that not everyone thinks like you.

There is never a good time to have kids. As long as you are financially stable and healthy, that's the best time to have a kid.

Here's a novel idea. Support your own damn self in old age!

I plan on it. I wasn't talking about financially moron.

Who is going to wipe your ass and change your diaper when you are so old you can't go shit in the bathroom? A robot? No, they would be called home help aides, done by humans. Who will become our doctors, police, etc... if everyone stopped having babies? We don't live forever, you know. So, who will keep our economy going? Oh that's right, immigrants. Oh but wait. We want to make immigration so restrictive that we only allow "highly skilled workers". Would those workers want to wipe up your shit? I doubt it. So, then let's allow low skilled immigrants. See? Problem solved. The US will eventually be just made up immigrants and their children. Oh wait....

All well and good until you can't remember your name, let alone how to dress and feed yourself. You may have all the money in the world, but without anyone to check that your diaper is actually getting changed (by that immigrant in their 20's who someone took the time to birth and raise)….well, as long as you are willing to take that risk know that your money only protects you to a degree. Just remember, (while you still have a memory), some one, some actual physical person, is going to be taking care of you, performing your surgery, handing you your pills, and they probably aren't going to be your age, if your life ends the way most do these days. And no amount of money in the world will change that. So before you get SO superior that all breeders are disgusting selfish fucks, maybe remember that without anyone breeding, our economy will collapse and so will your care before you die.

This is spectacular.

Just to give this ridiculous argument some perspective:

Your kids aren't going to change your diapers. They will pay someone to do that. Someone darker than them, who is dedicated and trained and making minimum wage, while your kids order take out and divvy up your stuff.

I fully support immigration -- legal or otherwise -- because I am not an idiot who thinks your kids are going to do the vital work they happily do. I am sure I will someday be cared for by someone who was likely born in another country and speaks English as a second (or third) language. And I will appreciate them. I may even leave my stuff to them.

Why not? I have no kids desperately waiting for me to croak so they can have it.

I stated that, yes, it's the immigrant home help aides that will most likely be taking care of the elderly.

So, everyone, including immigrants, thinks like you and doesn't have kids. Then what? The whole planet dies out. I know, you don't give a a rats ass because you will be dead.

I recognized kids won't be changing my diapers. But they WILL be looking in on me and ensuring I'm getting the care that my estate is paying for -

Just like my parents did for my grandparents and I watched DH's parents do for their folks. When the staff was stealing his grandmothers things it wasn't other staff that caught them, it was my MIL. No one looks out for you like family. Period.

You'll leave your stuff to them because you'll sign any document they lay in front of you by that time. Talk to some trusts and estates people and they will tell you stories.
Also, it is your dream that these people will be dedicated and trained. Reality - different than that. Cheap labor, manhandling the frail elderly with dementia who can't report it. Ignoring calls for assistance while they hang out at the floor station. But never mind, they will surely be more selfless, devoted and loving than any selfish, greedy, grasping children of your very own.

If Homo sapiens goes extinct on this planet, it won't be because people didn't have babies.

I am sorry that you had a bad experience with elder care. Truly, I am. But I don't understand why you're blaming it on immigrants. Do you think that your elderly family member would have received better care from people who were born in the US? What even more staggering sum of money would that have cost, and who would pay for it? The whole elder care system in this country is awful, and it's not the immigrants' fault. The immigrants only work in that system. The lousy elder care system is the fault of the voters who are willing to accept it instead of insisting on better.

Yikes. Whatever happened in your childhood to convince you that children are selfish, greedy, grasping etc - I'm truly sorry. My husband comes from generations of happily married immigrants- poor on his side and the same but with generational wealth on my side.......and I couldn't imagine a closer, more loving example of family with OR without money. Your viewpoint of family is incredibly bleak. I get why you aren't reproducing.

OMG. No, I wasn't saying it would be my children. I was saying that if everyone thought like the PP - don't have kids -- then who would support the aging population. Good gracious people... think!

Old age is horrible. Really, being covered in s**t because nobody will wipe my butt will be the least of my problems. If nobody cares for me, maybe I'll die before the worst comes, instead of living in hell for 10 years during my 90s.
